Omg let's all use poetry to spread terroism!

The day that shall be
The day that shall not
We should attack
On the day that we rot.

Subliminal messages anyone? 0 12 7 18

There must be some easier way...

This computer might be useful to terrorists. I'm expecting Homeland Security to show up as soon as they read the news from across the pond.

Boo hoo.

A few hundred years ago they'd have hung, drawn, and quartered her. She got off lightly considering the total fucking stupidity she displayed adopting the tag, "terrorist" while working in an airport.

Re: Sorry Britain. No free speach for you.

Not only that, but she had joined an extreemist group if you read he article through which promotes al quedas activities... i quote...

Quote:
The jury was told that she joined an extremist organisation called Jihad Way, set up explicitly to spread terrorist propaganda and support for al Qaida.
and then she also joined a social networking website called hi5 where her interest were listed as..
Quote:
"helping the mujaheddin in any way which I can".

Under favourite TV shows, she listed: "Watching videos by my Muslim brothers in Iraq, yep the beheading ones, watching video messages by Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahri and other videos which show massacres of the kaffirs."
she got off very lightly and hopefully this does not send the wrong message to extreemists.

Re: Sorry Britain. No free speach for you.

No matter what religion or where she works, she should have the freedom to express herself in any non-harmful matter she pleases. When was the last time someone died because of a poem being written. The fact that she was criminally punished because of her poetry is barbaric. That's similar to someone being prosecuted by the bullshit prayers they might recite.

Read above Ameroth, it wasn't just the poems, its her links to certain organisation along with these poems that detrmined her to be guilty under our terrosim act laws.

and Feba, if this was the US she would not have got off as lightly, your lack of freedom of speach is much worse than ours.

Ya I read the whole thing. She used her own PC to visit a website of her choice and post information about herself. Big deal. None of your business. The article also noted that she was found not guilty on the charge of possesing "[an] article for terrorist purposes."

No, our anti-terrorism law is worse than yours. Our law/right to free speech, however, seems to be pretty on par compared to yours.

Re: Sorry Britain. No free speach for you.

I don't agree with her being convicted at all, the article portrays her as a stupid, confused girl whose found a new way to rebel against.....not really liking her life. She sounds like she could do with some counseling more than a jail term. That being said I don't think she would have been convicted unless they found that she was doing something of aid to someone a bit more seriously harmful.

Just to be fair about it though British Citizens really aren't promised free speech in the way you Americans are. If you read the human rights act there is a qualification on the freedom of expression which basically says they can limit it based on several circumstances. The section talks about national security, the restrictions necessary in a diplomatic society, public safety and worryingly protection of health or morals. Lots of wiggle room there.

If you want to talk about violations of promised free speech then: couple arrested for trespassing while in a public place for wearing anti bush T Shirts I think that wins.

Re: Sorry Britain. No free speach for you.

It's the government's job to protect its citizens. Who wouldn't be concernd if a girl working at an airport suddenly became an extremist?

Free speech is bullshit anyways. A lot of people in this country don't have a damn worthwhile thing to say, and we'd all be better off it they'd shut it forever. I'm looking at you, Rosie O'Donnel.

Re: Sorry Britain. No free speach for you.

I dunno, to me, sending out 'Terrorist messages' in a *freaking airport* would be akin to shouting 'Fire!' in a crowded theater imo. When people see that someone more or less wrote 'I can't wait to blow myself up' on their freaking reciepts, that just might cause a bit of a panic. Combined with her seeking out more information about Terrorist propaganda and such, I feel she did enough to warrent her slap on the wrist. She was a dumb kid who rebeled in a dumb way, but other dumb rebel kids have been responsible for many tragic events.

This has less to do with free speech as it does to some kid being dumb.

Re: Sorry Britain. No free speach for you.

To me this is a sign of what is to come. I see this person as being similar to the guy who shot up Virginia Tech (if that is the school, can't remember off the top of my head).
After the crime is commited, people will look back and say "All of the signs were there, no one paid attention to them."

Well, this time, someone did look at the signs, and attempted to head off the problem before it got out of hand.

That is my take at least.

And for Freedom of Speech, it doesn't exist anymore. At best you have Tolerance of Speech, and only for select groups. Remember, it is no longer intent, it is solely perception. You can say something to a friend that means one thing, and you and your friend completely understand it. However, someone walking by and overhearing what you say, can construe it to mean something entirely different, and you can get nailed for it.

Political Correctness at it's best.

It is not however to police what people think, or dictate what is and is not acceptable thought.

Writing what she did on receipts was stupid and should have got her fired, but even in Britain you are still allowed to believe and say what you want.

It never ceases to amaze me how fast Britain changed. Thirty years of shrugging off actual threats (IRA) and then whining like little girls and doing some of the stupidest stuff in the face of an imagined one.

Not being funny Mhurron but its wasn't untill 911 that any of this came in and after 7/7 in london paranoia has hit the high and the government want to sho examples of people to win publics vote of confidence. the funny thing is we were better under blair than we are under brown and I can see Labour toppling out of the next election and we have to put up with conservative rule.
