However, the absolute shit of Discovery shows, Blue Planet on a HD TV is insane! | Blue planet was made by the king of Nature documentaries Sir David Attenborough and BBC nature. He has made many of these series and is a person calssed as a british hero for all his work. If you liek Blue plannet then make sure you watch trails of life, another one of his epics and Planet earth. I have all his DVD boxsets and jsut to chill watching these on a big screen tv is absolutely (god i hate having to quote americanisms, but here goes) awesome. Brickshouse - The returning Galka. Anyone that holds themselves up as an authority or reference on anything better have something to back that stance up.
Similarly if you're going to have a TV show that pretends to be a Science show and it's hosts have no qualifications then that show is not worth my time and should not be billed as a science show.
Also pulling things off like having a Phony Ph.D as an authority simply adds to the show being a waste of time and only on to appeal to the same drooling masses that Survivor and it's ilk does. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 01-04-2008, 07:14 AM | #1568 (permalink) | | Senior Veteran Oracle of Knowledge Join Date: May 2006 Posts: 4,576 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 114 Thanked 1,399x in 846 Posts Gil: 4,239 Bank: 223,341 Total Gil: 227,580 Donate | Re: Official bored at work / just shooting the shit / no rails to derail thread On the subject of documentaries, I miss the old Nova. In the american version you'd never get Ryan stiles doing an impression of a horny dog with his arm as its dick and humping colins leg, that was fine on the uk version but would have been banned on the US one!
The producers of teh US one just censored everything inc ase it hurt someones feelings, here it was so what its comedy!! | Actually, it was more that it was aimed at a differernt target demographic then the types of censors affect what gets on TV. Here, it was meant to be a more 'family friendly' show as it's aired by the ABC networks, which are a susidiary of Disney. This is most prominantly seen in the fact that, over here, Who's Line is it Anyway is most often aired on the "ABC Family" network. Drew Carry on his own, much like many other 'family sitcom' comedians, are much funnier when they're not leashed to 'family programing'. But again, this is less to do with censorship and worrying about hurting people's feelings in the US and more to do with targeting a broad age group of viewers.
I mean, we are the nation that brings you South Park after all...and very few shows push the censors like that one.
Though the original british version was much much funnier.
