RL Fishing

I posted a bunch of these pics over on LBR forums, but just for fun, I'll post them here too. They're pics of the fish I caught on a trip this last weekend.

L to R: King Mackerel, Vermillion Snapper, Gag Grouper, Vermillion, King

Just before we moved spots and I landed my 2 kingfish.

With my dad and brother.

Re: RL Fishing

You need to raise your fishing skill, you should have caught a lot more then that over a weekend.

No kidding. In all fairness, Red Snapper were out of season, so we had to throw them all back. Sadly, they are larger and meatier than those little Vermillions. And the fishing portion of the trip was 8 hours of riding and 4 hours of fishing. You turd

Re: RL Fishing

Off of the Texas coast, out in the Gulf of Mexico. I don't know how far out we were.

Re: RL Fishing

What bait did you use? And more importantly, how much gil are you gonna make from selling those?

Re: RL Fishing

We used squid for bottom fishing and cigar minnows for the kingfish. I doubt I stand to make much gil though; I didn't get a full stack of anything and the singles don't sell well.

Re: RL Fishing

I went last summer off of Mississippi coast. We were looking for snapper but mostly caught crap. Bonitas, Blue Fish, Lady Fish, couple of Spanish Mackerel, and a Jack Cravelle(sp). The best part was catching the black tip sharks. We caught a few of those and made dinner out of them. We mainly trolled with spoons. I wish we could have done some bottom fishing.

Who said those fish were crap? Bonitas are hard to clean, but good eats. Spanish Mackerel and Jack Crevalle are both nice fish as well. Maybe just me, but I get worn out on catching nothing but snapper (blame the countless trips from Galveston where that's all you get. No variety. )

It's strange that you guys were going after snapper, but not bottom fishing. And I gotta agree; shark makes a nice dinner. Its meat seems strange; the texture is more like shrimp than fish. Still nice though.

Re: RL Fishing

Nice catches.
I LOVE fly fishing. Usually go and fly fish streams in New Mexico a few times a year. Nothing much better than camping for a weekend and fly fishing 12 hours a day.

Re: RL Fishing

Did you have good feelings about them? Or were you only slightly sure you had enough skill to reel them in?

(What did you expect with a thread like this? God, I'm a fugging dork.)

Actually, there's nothing amazing about that, I suppose.

Re: RL Fishing

The Bonita meat is almost straight blood, the jack was huge though. The only way I can describe shark is that its a "heavy" meat.

Always have good feelings when you go fishing. Even when you don't catch any fish.

With all the smaller fish I had a good feeling. That second kingfish though, I was fairly sure I could not reel him in. Then I had 5 rod breaks. I got .3 skillup on the last break...
