as far as I know, the military wasn't too happy with most things our priminister has done. The PM kind of offended our King from time to time and it's a long rumor that he wants to end our royal family and take control over the country.

Anyway, the coup was a joint afford from military, soldier, navy, air force and police together. All against the priminister and government. They have seized TV and radio stations, still speculating if they'll do anything to the internet o.O;; But they have blocked all world news now.

That has to be pretty surreal...

Here's hoping everything works itself out peacefully. Just don't go around trying to soap the tanks or egging their hatches.

Fortunately due to the Internet blocking all international media is going to be hard.

Hopefully the Internet is not taken completely down, but I would start collecting information on proxy's located in other countries. (and if your really worried find an encrypted proxy connection pronto)

yea his corporation was the first investment in wireless communication in my coutry. He monopolized the cell phone market in thailand for over 10 years. Before he switched himself into government.

That's the inherent risk, however. Like South Korea in the late 60s/70s when they had military coup and had a dictator rule the country and martial law in effect through the early 80s.

I mean, who's to say the general doesn't feel like going "the whole 9 yards" now that this coup is going according to plan?

Just to add.. depends on the general. It could be that he's following the orders of the King. You just never know.

Have they announced whether or not they'll be returning to democracy? However insensitive this may sound, the fact that a Muslim took control in a Buhddist country was a red flag for me. The extremists have already branched out into Somalia, and I doubt they'd stop there.

Don't hate me for being the first to bring up any possibility of a connection. >_<

Terrorism only flourishes in hate, anger, and intolerance. From everything I've heard Thailand is pretty much a peaceful country despite its political tensions at the moment. Jei can probably correct me better than anybody, but I don't think there are any hard core, radical movements occuring that demand that you follow Allah or die.

As for the acting PM being Muslim... not all Muslims are terrorists. They're humans that just want to go home every night to a family and live peaceful lives like everyone else.

There's supposed to be an election coming up in a month. Don't know what will happen next.

As long as you are safe and there's no disruption in services and food supplies. I just hope everything resolves peacefully and people's lives and way of life are respected (like usual, civilians will always have the worst part if in these kind of conflicts).

Not much I can say really, I can't even imagine being in a situation like that.
