My Dad has made this site he's ran for a while. He's got a few people that go to it every now and then. I don't think enough where he gets lots and lots of hits, but enough where he gets some feedback. Anyway, this is the site:

I've talked about this with my dad, and I've told him that movie companies might be pissed because he's using movie footage which is copyrighted. I've seen some of the stupid stuff these people will send out C & Ds for. I'm thinking though it might not be too harmful. What he does is he posts clips of movies with his own introduction, talking about the movie for a minute, and he reminds people to go buy the DVD, and he keeps on pushing for you to buy the DVD. He runs a few scenes from the movie, and then gives a farewell, and usually that's it.

Am I wrong? I hope movie companies wouldn't mind, in fact now that I think about it, they might even like the fact that someone is pushing people to buy DVDs, when he's not getting anything out of it, except enjoying his own hobby. It's actually sort of a good idea, giving people a taste of a movie they might wanna buy, but not sure if they'll like it. I guess because I've heard of people getting CaD for less, that maybe the same might happen to him. I'm hoping not, cause I think he'd really be hurt by that. What do you think? Think movie companies if they saw this site would mind?

I'm actually thinking of asking him to post a segment on FF7: advent children lol be nice to open up to more people. I don't always see eye to eye what he posts on there, because he mainly sticks to movies he likes, even if they are decades old or most people have already seen em.

I posted a topic like this on gamefaqs movie section board, and god that was a mistake -_- Some idiot named ThE MaSTeR 3 responded to my comment about FF7: AC and said "Yeah the 5 people that view that crappy site would be in for a treat." The jerks at that site feel like they never need to show any respect, he was talkin about my friggin dad's site! I'd kick his ass if I could.

His site is technically a violation of copyright law - yes, what he is doing is illegal. Realistically, some companies are more lenient and proactive than others regarding enforcement of their intellectual property rights. Most movie studios fall under the proactive category and will issue a Cease and Desist if they catch wind of something like this, however.

If it's just clips nobody's probably going to mind, provided he isn't spoiling or painting some false image of the movie. There's some clause of fair use policy that we were taught in audio editing class that if it's less than a certain percentage of the total work, it's protected. That's provided you're not doing anything to threaten the market of the product. Since he's actually pushing DVD sales, I don't think anyone is going to send him a rude thank you for advertising.

Um, he doesn't make any money off of it. It's a hobby, in fact he pays money to maintain it. I have a seperate site of my own through his server, and I don't make any money off of it either. My dad just wants people to see the things he puts time into, just like I have done with my site. Why is that always too much to ask?

dude dont lie man i HATE HATE HATE liars.. if he is selling dvd's he is makeing money bottom line. so dont lie.. like we dont know what a affiliate is..... and how they can make anywhere from 10-20% for referring customers

Christ, forget it. I'll delete this thread shortly if you just STFU. But before I do that, I just wanna say I wasn't intending fully to just advertise it. Even if I was, what's the harm to advertise a site made a 58 year old who wants nothing more than for people to check out the videos he makes, because he thinks someone might actually wanna see em. He isn't getting any profit, he isn't an affiliate. He's posting links to amazon cause it's the most well known site, and because he doesn't wanna get in trouble from any movie companies by posting copyrighted material.

I admit part of me wanted some people to just at least check it out. Hoping that MAYBE someone might like it. My dad is very depressed lately, because he isn't able to work anymore, and he makes that site because it gives him something to do. But no one looks at it, and that makes him sad. I'm his son for crying out loud, and I wanna help him! He isn't asking anyone to give him a dime, just support the movies if you like them. Don't download movies illegally! You probably do tensuol, cause you seem to be outraged at any sort of advertisement for people to buy things legally.

doesn't look like an advertising to me... you can view the movies without any charge. And if someone really wants to buy those movies, they are so common everyone can order from millions other websites.... I don't know why you have to come and scream and cry in his thread.
