Ninjutsu skill, what's it do?

I'm working on my Ninja subjob for my Blu. First off, my ninjutsu skill is horribly low since I've soloed so many of my levels as Nin. Secondly, it's unlikely to get any better since I am using Campaign Ops to get Nin to at least level 30, and at most up to 37. Since I'm back in college and not having much time to play I may go and take Sch up to 37 through Campaign Ops because I could easily solo Nin/Dnc with the FoV stuff.

So my question is, from a subjob standpoint and only for Utsusemi, Monomi, and Tonko, is there any use for Ninjutsu skill level?

I ask because frankly, I don't know. If there is no point in it then I don't feel bad in the least at an underleveled skill, if there is, then I'll want to skill it up.

Higher skill lowers interrupt rate. I don't know how much of a difference the level of skill you can get under sub makes, but every little bit helps, I'm sure.

Re: Ninjutsu skill, what's it do?

Is it just me or does it take forever to raise Ninjutsu skill? I started it recently to use as a sub for my Bst and at lvl 16 now my Ninjutsu skill is 5 ish I even stood still on my own spamming shadows and after a stack only one skillup. is there something I'm doing wrong?
Sorry Op for hijacking the thread but we kinda have the same question.

Spells that act on yourself always skill up their respective skill slowly. You need to use Ninjitsu that damages or affects mobs. At lvl 16, that would be the elemental ninjitsu spells. Later, you'll also get enfeebling spells.

Re: Ninjutsu skill, what's it do?

It takes forever if all you ever cast are the self-target spells, just like most magic skill. Once you get the enfeebles and start using them against mobs, it goes much faster. When I got the elemental Ichis, I grabbed a few cheap stacks of tools and just spammed my way up, using my NPC to get up to cap on EMs. I think I was level 20 by the time I capped out, and then I stayed there all the way to 37 just by enfeebling during parties.

Re: Ninjutsu skill, what's it do?

I level'd my Nin from 32-37 on FoV rather easily and brought my Ninjutsu from an abysmal 30'ish to about 104 in that time from fighting the mobs for FoV. Racked up a bunch o' tabs along the way. Not sure how I'll cap Ninjutsu .. might cast the elemental crap on campaign leechkeepers while not w/ tags... unsure tho.

I find the higher Ninjutsu is, the less chance for interupt. Which is awesome.

Re: Ninjutsu skill, what's it do?

Easiest way to skill it up from what I've heard is to just get NIN to 40, and spam the -Ni elemental wheel. As stated, you won't get as many skillups using it on yourself. That and it isn't as slow as the Ichi wheel, and 40 NIN is useful at the very least for several BCNM's so it's worth taking up.

Re: Ninjutsu skill, what's it do?

The number of shadows eaten by certain TP moves is supposedly affected by your Ninjutsu skill (the higher your skill, the better your chances that fewer shadows will be eaten).

Since your Ninjutsu skill be capped at half level at best, I don't know if you can ever get it high enough where it would make a meaningful difference during a non-trivial fight.

Yeah if you use the elemental wheel, even if you dont need to, it goes up really quickly ^.^

I'm pretty sure it affects resist rates on your enfeebling spells as well as elemental damage/resists. The elemental resistance down on the nukes will always land though regardless.

Re: Ninjutsu skill, what's it do?

Well fudge, my post seems to have been eaten by the interweb >.<

Quote:

Does skill affect the chances of shadows intercepting an attack or anything?

Reason I ask is because I went Drg/Nin for one or two of the CoP fights, I know at least the Omega/Ultima fight, and I forget if there was another one. Shadows absorbed all AoE attacks just fine so long as I had enough shadows up, normally took 2 shadows per AoE I think it was.

However, I've been skilling up my swordskill on my Drg to help out my Blu's sword skill, I normally go Drg/Nin for shits and giggles and to try to get an understanding of Utsusemi. There have been a few times in Campaign or Besieged where I'll take damage, yet I think I still had my shadows up at those times. Could have been lag, I may not have been paying close enough attention, I don't know, but I thought my shadows were up and I know at least once that was the case. But I've also been skilling up on the crabs in Vunkerl Inlet and Pashhow Marshlands, and Bubble Shower so far completely ignores Utsusemi. It won't wipe shadows, it just acts like they weren't there at all, and they're still up after the Bubble Shower. I didn't think that was possible with the way Utsusemi works. I thought that any AoE will either wipe shadows and deal damage (magical) or be absorbed by a certain amount of shadows (physical), so I am at a slight loss as to that.

Then too there is the fact that at best, I can get the skill level of a lvl 37 Nin, and I don't see that as being that much vs lvl 70+ mobs, so I'm slightly dubious as to any benefit from raising my Ninjutsu skill.

Several things ignore shadows, Bubble shower is one of them.

Skill's relation to Utsusemi is just in spell interruption rate afaik.
