What body piece do YOU Melee in?

Hello all, I wanted to do a quick survey for all the 75 NINs out there. Like I said in the title, what body piece do you use when partying? Mine are:

Tanking (normal mobs) -- Osode -- In general I like the stats and looks WAY more than SH (If the mob doesn't have "low evasion" I'll swap to SH)

Melee (when I don't have hate) -- Hauby -- I had asked in a previous thread ( Shura Togi: MNK only? ) about Shura Togi, but A) I dont' have the gil for it and B) I just like Hauby lol

Tanking (as /DRK) -- Arhat's -- -dmg% and Enmity (All Right!)

Using the FFXICalculator given my gear and weapons, I come up with a 4.2 second delay and 21 hits for 100% TP. If I wear Ninja Chainmail, it reduces my delay to 4.0 and 22 hits for 100% TP. So, based on that I decided to not use AF body.

So, what do YOU use?

If the normal mobs burn through your shadows, you're much better off with SH(+1). I have an osode and I still wouldn't use it on ninja that much. But this is also dependent on what other gear you have on too.

I don't see the Osode as beneficial. Only gives 5 Acc and 5 Evasion to the Scorp Harness's 10/10. The only thing you get back in exchange is 5 Attack and 2 DMG, but Acc and Evasion are generally more important.

More to add: For TP gain ( and also multi-hit weaponskill ), you'll benefit a lot more from the Haubergeon, if evasion is not a concern. Accuracy is way too important to pass up.

If accuracy/evasion is not an issue, the chainmail is really good. But more than likely, this will be on easier mobs.

Re: What body piece do YOU Melee in?

For TP while tanking honestly you can't really beat SH(+1). Osode is just a looks/status piece these days, honestly it's not very useful on NIN at all unless soloing as /RDM or something. SH for TP, Hauby for WS, life is good. For something like merits I'd honestly recommend just full-timing hauby, since you're not going to maintain hate the full time anyways.

Re: What body piece do YOU Melee in?

Ok, so here's my gear setup, just to clarify:

TP/WS

Head: Turban/Ohat
Body: (In debate)/Hauby
Hands: Dusk/AF+1
Legs: Byakko's Haidate
Feet: Sune-ate (3% haste boots, can't remember the name)
Waist: Swift/Potent
Back: Boxer's or Amemet/Amemet (going to get Cerb Mantle)
Neck: PCC
Ears: Suppa+Brutal
Rings: Rajas full time + Flame/Sniper

Like I said originally, if the mob does not check "low evasion" I'll use SH. I had asked in another thread about evasion checks on mobs, and I was under the impression that once you had "low evasion" on a mob, your acc was sufficient for melee swings (not counting multi-hit WS').
So, I was thinking it would be sufficient to tank (mobs swinging at you) with Osode (vs Hauby's -evasion), which provides at least a moderate boost to STR, rather than stack more (useless?) acc from SH.

More info please I appreciate the discussions.

Not really...Low Evasion just means you have 10+ more Acc than the mob has Evasion. For an EM or lower that means your hit rate is at least 80%, but for every level the mob is higher than you, you lose 2% hit rate. A VT mob 5 levels higher than you would cause you to have a 70% hit rate if you're exactly at the point where it checks Low Evasion.

Re: What body piece do YOU Melee in?

The point where more accuracy will become 'useless' is much higher than you think, it gets underestimated by a large amount of people. To a lesser extent you could say the same for evasion...but still even in small amounts more evasion never hurts when you aren't sacrificing something else for it. With Osode you're sacrificing either accuracy and attack or accuracy and evasion, but never outdoing either of the other 2 pieces in both fields.

Unless your Osode is from a LS where you are required to not sell it(my LS has such rules), you'd be better off selling it and getting a Hauby+1.

Also you could replace your l.ear on WS with something minor such as a Coral or Fowling earring or even a Fenrir's earring for an improvement.

To the first point: I actually got Osode to compliment my BST charm gear, and to a lesser extent for my BRD (which originally was going to 75 along with my NIN). Since I'm planning on NEVER returning to sky, I'm a bit hesitant to sell it.

For the second point, how about Ethereal Earring? I used that full time until I could use Brutal, and can still use it to swap in for WS. Thanks for that suggestion, it had slipped my mind.

Also, I parsed a Temenos North run while tanking with Osode on; we finished the pugil floor but our luck failed on Time chests, so we'll be going back on Saturday. I'll tank that one with SH and can post the results, for those who may be interested.

Re: What body piece do YOU Melee in?

Yeah I'd TP in Suppa/Brutal and WS in Ethereal/Brutal if that's the case.

Don't be a smartass, lol. Yes that's better, but it's not like I could say, oh go pick up a Salvage body @ the AH rq and try it out.
