I've always wondered how tanks hold hate while kiting. Seemed like it would be either avoiding damage or building hate.

Set solid initial hate with a SATA on to you after someone else takes the first voke then pop a 300TP Spirits Within and swap out to Earth or Wind staff and tank using Warcry and Provoke as they cycle. Get a thief to trick on to you if you find any little twitches from the mob in case it looks like it's going to swing on to someone else. Normally you do this with a tanking partner who stands opposite you though and with SATA you bounce the mob between the two of you always trying to cover each other's shadows. I'd never use Elemental Ninjitsu but the enfeebles still produce appreciable hate. I know Kirin reacts quite angrily to being paralyzed by me.

Even on exp mobs I find this is usually the case. This is a classic example ... I'm enfeebling and hitting this IT++ soldier crawler one after another: Dia II > Slow > Paralyze > Blind > Gravity ... it cocoons at this point and I use Dispel at roughly the same time this BLM fires off a Blizzaga and Fire II salvo ... who got tagged? As soon as Dispel landed I'm short 120 hp ... lolorz.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm not saying race is the only stat to factor in but certain mobs ignore skilll. Fact is, all the skill in the world isn't going to help when byakko paralyzes you and does triple attack back to back.

Way weaker, a party can take the pops down

Our 1st kirin took 4 hrs, we're down to like an hr if we kite her.
It's a a lot less if we straight tank her, but it's also a lot more dangerous, Our linkshell does this weird triangle thing where 3 of us stand in front of Kirin, one at the right, one left and one straight ahead.

We have a 10 second voke cycle, the sams just stand behind and make fragmentation
