What do you think of the new Wind Katana's?

I was watching a Ninja friend of mine use them the other night. I don't know how effective they are from personal experience yet but he said they were kind of fun. I think the idea is original at least. I kind of hope that kind of creativity goes into more future Ninja weapons of all sorts, weither its effective or not. Ninja's use downright bizzare weaponry at times in Ninja mythos so there's a lot of fun that could be had with that. :D

Plus its just funny getting the image of a Ninja using a hand held whirling fan like we have in reality in one hand to "create" wind.

"Taste the power of my wind attack!" *slashes, and presses tiny button on fan* ....hold on...it takes a second to pick up but its coming.."

But seriously its a really cool idea at least. If any of you have tried them what do you think?

Friend of mine tested out the level 32 Reppuu katana with level 50 Mega Fans

Cost atm is still kinda debateable as they're so new, no one knows what to pay for them.

Reppuu Katana was 30k
stack of 99 Mega Fans is 10k

She was melee'ing with goobues in Rolanberry and they'd go off 3-5 times a fight and do 60-70pts of Wind dmg. That's pretty sweet if you ask me.. Not a real test against IT mobs of course, but it's nice to see them doing decent dmg at least.

However, I only saw 3 katana's with the ability to add wind dmg from fans.

Kinda spread out.. And I don't think there'd be a cost savings over shuriken, less the price of Wind fans comes down. Stack of 99, using up 3-5 a fight at least? Cost bout as much as Shuriken, mebbe even Juji Shuriken per fight. Same amount of agro generation I would think as well. Although, perhaps you could macro to equip shuriken, throw em, then re-equip the wind fans for the effect potential.

Anyways, just what I've seen/heard so far.

ps.. Has anyone else noticed that they've ramped up the katana's available for ninja? When leveling I remember a huge gap from level 11 - 26 when katana's only did 11 dmg... now at 20 there's a 12dmg, 24 there's a 13 and at 28 there's a new katana doing 15 but with str+1 and agi+1. There's a few more that I saw on the list, but those are the ones I remember from memory. Mebbe I was just blind before and never noticed them in the list, but I'm pretty sure they're all new and I think it'll help newer ninja's to level up through the ranks a lil easier than before.

Yeah, they added new weapons and armor of all types, not just katana...though the wind katana are the newest of em.

If the additional damage could be as consistent and maybe as damaging as Shuriken that'd be insane.

You could get the extra damage in there, weither your fighting or tanking, and not have to take extra time to throw. You could have it on auto with your regular attack while you put all your energy into everything else.

Its probably not as much damage though. The macro'ing thing sounds like its a good option. Macro switching seems to be pretty handy with this job. Still, its the effect of Enaero without /Rdm. That has to count for something.

You know what'd be great? If there was eventually a Katana that could give you any additional Enhancing effect depending on what you equip in the ammo slot. Like if you equipped some fire item, it'd have the effect of Enfire. Or if you equipped the fans, it'd have the Enaero effect and so on. You could do the whole Elemental matching with elemental weakness concept that Nin/Rdm speculated, but as Nin/War or anything else.

That'd be such a sweet weapon, it'd have to be Rare/Ex or very expensive though. I hope they release Katana's that have the other Enhancing effects eventually too, along with Enaero.

Well, as it stands at least at level 13 there is no reason not to use one.

At level 13, the equilvalent katana is a shinobi-gatana, which is the same in every other fashion. So I might as well be using the wind katana, equipping wind fans (at least til 18 when I get shuriken) Any idea where I can get the level 10 wind fans though?

Changing a ranged item reduces your TP to 0%, so it's not a practical option to use both, unless you never want to participate in skillchains (probably a bad idea).

I haven't been looking at ninja weapons recently, though, so I can't really offer anything else to this topic... will have to look later. =\

Ranged yes.. but changing an ammo item does Not reset your TP. =)

sorry to bump an old thread, but i'm leveling ninja now and am planning to get 2x kyofu and a bunch of wind fans. i'm wondering if this is worthwhile. wind fans only cost about 10k per stack but hardly sell and there are never any in stock. btw, i found the recipe on mysterytour...
