How does a NIN's Damage Output compare to, say, a WAR or PLD?

Look at the weapons that a ninja has access to and then look at the weapons a paladin uses. Ninja isn't for damage unless you maybe use ninjitsu stars to add to your damage output.

From my 20 levels of WAR, my damage was comparable to the DRGs and MNKs I was partying with. Slap on a berserk when I'm not tanking, and I outdamage them. And from what I've been told, it only gets better for them.

From my 25 levels of PLD, I hardly ever even hit due to having to cast cure over and over again to keep hate. Apparently this gets betters at later levels though, expecially when THFs get Trick Attack. NINs will still outdamage them though over time with Dual Wield bonuses. Plus NINs can eat +ATK food while PLDs are eating +DEF.

From my 33 levels of NIN, it wasn't bad but no where close to a WAR. You also have to spam ninjitsu like PLDs do cures, but not nearly as much.

EDIT: Discordian brings up a good point with Ninja stars. I didn't use them often since powders cost so much, but when I did use them when I lost aggro they got the hate back nicely. If you have the cash to use them, you should get them. If you don't, you should farm to get the cash.
