SQUARE-ENIX "DRAGON QUEST" Press Event 12/11/08 -- DRAGON QUEST X to Nintendo Wii

I'll get straight to the point, no introduction is really necessary.

-DRAGON QUEST X is announced for Wii.

A year ago today, SQUARE-ENIX announced DRAGON QUEST IX: Defenders of the Starry Sky for the DS, in a very controversial decision to forego the newly released next-gen (now-gen) consoles. Today, they moved past that decision and announced the next installment in the franchise, DRAGON QUEST X (full title TBA). Nintendo President Satoru Iwata took the stage to make the announcement that the game is being developed for his company's Wii system.

In addition, DRAGON QUEST IX: Defenders of the Starry Sky will release in Japan for the Nintendo DS on March 28th, 2009 for 5,980 yen.

Well, definitely have to get a Wii now. Dragon Quest is still a very, very strong franchise. This will have a larger impact on Japan than the US or UK, which unfortunately doesn't appreciate Dragon Quest as much.

Also, those special edition DQ IX DSes are the most awesome thing ever. I want one.

Yeah, and Masked Queen was the Wii game, I think that's just a typo.

In other words SE didn't want to spend gil on DQ when they are still working on XIII and friends.

I think it's a good move, plus I'll get a Wii eventually so it's all good.

Just to make sure everyone realizes, that is not a DS in the picture. That is a DSi. So the limited edition systems coming out for Dragon Quest IX are DSi's.

actually it looks like those are just DQ9 cases. Note the shadow

And also, neat, although we won't be seeing this game until 2011 in all likelihood; unless they've been working on it for quite awhile. Personally not dipped my feet in the DQ franchise yet.

Never been a Dragon Quest fan but nice to see another (hopefully) quality game coming to the sea of crap that pollutes the Wii.

Go find a copy of DQXIII now, then, Feba. If you like quirky Japanese RPGs, this is the mother of them all.

The amazing thing about DQ is that it never has strayed all that far from its original formula, basically because the original was that good. In the move to a fully 3D world in XVIII, it really achieved a sense of scope that few RPGs - east or west - had done, particularly for a turn-based title.

Its still relatively easy to find and well worth the $20 new.

My apologies. Typo in the OP. Fixed now.

Final Fantasy on PS360, Dragon Quest on Wii. That's a SE philosophy I can get behind.

Also: No mention on whether or not Level-5 is developing DQX. They seem to have their hands full...so I wouldn't be surprised if SE is taking this one to a new developer.

Re: SQUARE-ENIX "DRAGON QUEST" Press Event 12/11/08 -- DRAGON QUEST X to Nintendo Wii

I'm a bit swamped. I've sort of stalled in Ultimecia's castle [FF8], then I've got Killer 7, and looking forward to picking up P4. And then there's the Wii's insane early-09 lineup. And I've got my eye on a dance pad that costs $50 by itself. And I'm also apparently caught in a loop of "HOLY SHIT NO MORE HEROES FUCKING OWNS AND NEW GAME PLUS YAAAAAAAAAY" whenever I try to get back on getting through these games.

If I find time, I might try to get DQ8, but DQ10 will probably be in the hype phase by the time I get around to it; and 10 is a nice round number to start with.

Well, keep in mind you won't be playing DQX until late 2010 at the earliest. You've got time, and VIII is a very good starting point for the series...though the DS remakes are awesome.

Actually the only Dragon Quest game to come out in the UK was DQVIII

If I had plans to buy a DSi, I'd be all over those cases! They are adorable! But I've no plans to buy a DSi unless one of my DS's die. REALLY glad that you noticed they were cases though....its a hell of a lot cheaper than a new system!

well, I literally landed the killing blow on ultimecia 30 seconds ago. I guess Killer 7 probably won't be too long. Maybe I'll reconsider DQ8.

That's some mad finger slippage there, lol
