Sleep resistance in PVP comes from the special PVP rules. Try casting Barsleep and see how much good it does (I haven't actually tried, but it does exactly 0 in PVE).

I hope if they choose to drop the current FFXI that we can port our characters over. Between aquiring fame/rank/leveling subjobs/unlocking advanced jobs/questing for abilities/exc I've steadily been preping my character to have multiple options later in the game and the increasing fame is anoying (Bastore Sardines in Windy ahhhhhhhh). I don't think I have it in me to redo the grunt work it requires before you go into the midlevel pt's to have fun and explore Vandiel.
If it's just a masive overhaul of the world that wouldn't be so bad I just don't want to redo that much of the duller parts of the game.

Just like elemental resistance, you need to stack a lot of it on for it to matter.

I hear ya... In the couple of MMO's I've played so far, this seems to be fairly common. It would be great if a solution to grinding (for players who don't *enjoy* grinding) could be found. I just finished bringing BLM up to 10 (PT'd to 12 already), and W. Ronf. does get boring after a while. I was bored enough to take some poorly calculated risks, which further aggravated the process.

That's one thing I really enjoyed about FF1. Your first task from the very start is to fight a boss (who turns out to be the final boss). It would be nice to feel like you have something important to do from the very beginning.

Gamespot has just posted an article about it too, and they go into a bit more detial I guess. Seems to clarify that it is indeed a ffxi sequel.

They obviously kept the same character designer, and of course this will bring to us a sense of familiarity, which might very well drag me into paying for 2 MMORPG's from square

It looks more futurist, more realist, and i think its a welcomed change from all the other half design or half accomplished MMORPG's out there. The good part about SE is that they are professionnals. Very few bugs, very few mistakes, they're reliable. I wont make any comparisons, but to you all who have played other mmorpg's that are out there at the moment, you know what i mean.

So its a new MMO entirely eh? Oh well...

I think I'll pick up the game when it comes out, and If I like it enough, quit FFXI and keep thenew game. If I don't like the gameplay though, or if for somestupid reason SE makes it like WoW, I'll stick to FFXI thanks.

well, I'd say the new game is at least 2 years from release and even then FFXI wil continue on for some time after the new game is released.

Imagine if the new game was Vana'diel 1000 or 10,000 years in the furture? Imagine if there were a time vortex your character from FFXI could enter to transport them to the future world.

Exactly. I mean, if you want to make a console MMO, by all means do. But cross-platform MMOs mean that at least one of the systems is going to be limited by the capabilities of the other.
