I have a feeling they will learn from their mistakes.

This game is sure to tie into FFXI, perhaps in a future time period on Vana'diel? (Not lazers pew pew...) Judging from what seems to be the screens.

Also look how EQII tied into EQI, I assume it will be many years later. As in the world we know now is a history to the new one?

It would appear that IGN has updated the article since its original time of posting earlier this afternoon.

It adds:

Further details are not provided (including whether or not said sequel is a direct follow-up to the adventures of Vana'diel or if it isn't).

This means that IGN has in fact stated that there has been no confirmation that this new MMO project is an actual sequel to FINAL FANTASY XI.

Personally, I believe that we are getting an early signal of the announcement of FINAL FANTASY XIV. Until I hear from Square Enix otherwise, I believe that this game is going to be the next title in the FINAL FANTASY series, and the next online FINAL FANTASY game.

Even if it isn't a true sequel to FFXI (I don't care either way). Another MMO of FF is a great thing. (If it is of FF)

I do agree with you, I would love to see a more "FFVII-ish" MMO... Or atleast no more dark ages type fantasy.

I know that this will not end ffxi and i know that this may not even be related to ffxi. But I still hope It can turn out and be a game people from ffxi will apreciate and not be somthing we will hate and it will be a game nothing like ffxi. I knew square has been making a new mmo I did not expect it to be a new final fantasy and even now saying a sequal to ffxi was very uneqpected. i just hope if it is nothing like ffxi they will continue releaseing new content for ffxi =P

I would love to have a sequel to FFXI, but the way SE needs to make it so if you subscribe to one, you are subscribed to the other. That way people can play the original and the sequel and enjoy all the both FFXI's have to offer. I may no longer play, but I want to get my character re-instated from a Welcome Back campaign and continue to play. I don't want my original FFXI to go to waste because a new one has come out.

They specifically said just Vista, so it probably targets DirectX 10.

Even though I would love a FFVII-VIII kinda world it would depend on how well crafted it is, but then again even though IX was a bit of a dissapointment I have yet to see a FF that isn't a great game.

I only recall them being in VIII, and they also aren't particularly "sci-fi" either. I'm not sure of the connection here.

I too would like a demi/semi sci-fi game, and I think VII was a great example of how effectively that sort of setting can be pulled off. If they could manage something similiar (in quality, not as far as setting details) that would be great.

When I first heard of FFXI I thought it would be like the other recent FFs, futuristic. It makes sense that Square would take their first dip into the MMO world with the type of genre that started it all. The fact it was fantasy based did not hold me back one bit, as I imported it as it came out.

If this new one is anything like the video then it may be futuristic. The scene looked advanced and not just graphic-wise... Though this could all mean nothing if it was only a tech demo for the engine.

Yes I always had a feeling abotu those shots. Also if you look near the end of the video the guy walking by is wearing a version of the phawuluan(or however you spell it.
I'm very excited I dont think anyone needs to panic about FFXI's fate just yet. It may pull a EQ2 and just do the sequal thing.
