Re: Dragon Quest VIII Release Date Announced + Major Bonus!

I remember the FF 8 demo too, it was just enough to suck you into the new age graphics.

FF 7 was the first one I played, and after that I was hooked, I was pleased to see that the previous releases were even more involved then 7, but I still like 7 alot.

There was a very powerful change in the FF series after the new age systems came along, it seems that Square invested in new age graphics and original gameplay rather then the in depth feel and connection that the old FF games expounded on.

I think that they need to develop a FF that recalls the shared spotlight that FF 6 had, I think that is my favorite, the lack of main character and the fully developed story and mystery behind every character made them all facinating. It doesn't take cheesy attempts at modern graphical facial expressions to display emotion, it takes strong sympathetic storyline and events.

I think they tried to recreate some of the old with FF 9, but they didn't give it the time it needed to shine because of the impending release of 10, and pretty much killed thier own title, not to say that ff 9 was the best, but it had some flavor. I think every FF in the series is a well made game, but some of them far outshine the others, and it makes some of them less impressive. Had they been played being oblivious to any of the other titles, I think they would all be appreciated much more, but compared to previous titles, they seem to lose more of the involvement and interest to bling and new age concepts.

I hope one day SE gets the idea to totaly recreated the first 6 in the series, not just rerelease them with insignificant alterations, but totaly next millenium each of them with completely new graphics and additional features, as well as increased exploration and continuation content. The old FFs can't be replaced by new FFs, and they can't very well just make a sequel to each of them (that would simply be tacky), I think they are impressive enough (and retro enough) to be totaly redone in a new light, with simular gameplay and totaly improved and attractive visuals, or make a totaly new version of the same game with the same storyline and characters, kind of like the 400 remakes of zelda. If they released a totaly overhauled version of the game it would be good if each included a copy of the original version, so players can experience the original, and the new version, if they happen to be totaly different in gameplay.

Re: Dragon Quest VIII Release Date Announced + Major Bonus!

I'm still waiting on my demo disc to arrive...Wish it would hurry up.

In the meantime, can anyone tell me if this game will have any "mini-games" in it? Have past games in the series had these?

Most likely.

I'm quite pleased with the demo, especially to learn that they've gone through the trouble of adding voice overs just for the American version of the game. It's hard though!

Re: Dragon Quest VIII Release Date Announced + Major Bonus!

I totally enjoyed DQ8 especially when I could finally read the dialouge! LOL I did some alchemy (making items in your wagon by combining ingredients) but I was not able to enjoy Monster Raising because of the language barrier. I just got too frustrated and gave up. The game was fun but the demo made the game great for me. I am so looking forward to the release.

Re: Dragon Quest VIII Release Date Announced + Major Bonus!

Yes indeed the final fantasy serie losing the *glory* they had when they started but we cant tell their just going worse,if we look at each game they made each final fantasy are unique and very different in all ways,if we look from the final fantasy 1 to the 4 they concentrated mostly on story making us addictive to their games, when final fantasy 5 came out they left the good olds story on side and went for more realistic game play, using more class, being avble to switch and make evens team and use tactic..than the new era of final fantasy came out,new graphic at this time they tryed to give back what they lost in they story making, personnaly they made an awsome job about ff7,but the 8 was incredibly poor for myself..after 9 went on and been very good to..than 10 wich i dint realy love even if it had very good things in,but still not for me...square soft are trying to change the game play of each final fantasy and each game they make so they fit more ppls, and theyr doing it very well and i really hope they wont stop the final fantasy serie soon, other than the ff games, they tryed to make some movies abotu final fantasy and they totaly scwered up on that...first final fantasy legend movie..its just terribly.... than final fantasy unlimited..look like a show made for 6 year old kids but very violent for this age..and we codl go on for a while till..advent children that only been very good cuz they puted the same maker of the ff7 game on the movie,if they could to this more often they would get more and more fans and keep the legend alive forever.

And about dragon quest i never oplayed much this game but i must admit it had the real best story ever created in any games or show.

Re: Dragon Quest VIII Release Date Announced + Major Bonus!

...I got the demo in the mail a few days ago. I must say, however, that I wasn't too impressed. I was thinking about buying it. It sounded like a decent RPG and the FFXII demo had me hooked as well, but now it just seems I'd be paying $50 for the FFXII demo with some un-interesting game attached to it. Sorry for being the nay-sayer, but I really didn't like the thing, and the music was terrible IMHO ^^
