How does it handle registration codes? Does it issue you separate codes for each expansion like the physical disc releases, or is it an all-in-one code deal?

Edit: Never mind...just got the answer to my question by checking out the digital distribution version of the manual. It's an all-in-one code for everything.

Eh. A lot of older games are on Steam now alongside newer ones. Even Everquest is now on Steam (not to mention the whole Unreal/Unreal Tournament line), so it's not too odd that FF XI is on there now.

The only possible drawback to FF XI off of Steam is that now you have the overhead of the Steam client on your system resources now, but any semi-modern system should be able to handle it nicely. And hey, being able to put the old install discs (all nine of them) into storage for good for the cost of two of the mini add-ons is pretty handy. Of course, that's trading them in for a 9.5GB download...

I decided to get it, but for some reason I have both "FINAL FANTASY XI: Ultimate Collection" and "FINAL FANTASY XI" on my steam game list. The second one says "Pre-load complete". What's up w/ that?

Thanks what I'm wondering as well. Didn't show up until I downloaded and updated the whole thing, and while it's reporting that it's taking 8-9GB, it's not actually taking up the space (the regular install is).

If you already have disks, may as well use 'em. The Steam version still took a few hours to update.
