Square Enix Announces Release Date Of Final Fantasy XI Ultimate Collection



Square Enix, Inc., the publisher of Square Enix interactive entertainment products in North America, today announced that FINAL FANTASY XI Ultimate Collection will be released on November 10th in North America, in time for the holidays. A comprehensive compilation of all the content created within the title’s history, this new entry to the FINAL FANTASY XI catalog will be priced at $19.99 and available as a retail product for both Windows PC and Xbox 360 videogame and entertainment system from Microsoft, and as a PC download through select digital content distributors.

A one-size-fits-all upgrade for any FINAL FANTASY XI fan, as well as an all-access passport for players eager to begin their adventures in the world of Vana’diel, this new compilation encompasses the four previously released expansion packs – Rise of the ZilarT, Chains of Promathia, TreasureS of Aht Urhgan, and Wings of the Goddess – as well as the three add-on scenarios released in 2009: “A Crystalline Prophecy - Ode of Life Bestowing,” “A Moogle Kupo d’Etat - Evil in Small Doses” and “A Shantotto Ascension - The Legend Torn, Her Empire Born.” The third add-on scenario, “A Shantotto Ascension,” will officially launch later this year.

This is my cue to finally ditch my old installation CDs (installing with like 8 CDs is not fun) and get the add-ons + Nexus Cape in one swoop for a very reasonable price.

Since I don't have the newest expansion packs, it might be cheaper just for me to buy the disc and put it in storage until I need it lol.

I don't see them including the Nexus Cape in with the collection. It's meant to be a reward for all those loyal customers who blindly forked out bought all three addons.

it was already stated by SE, that the cape will be give to people who buy the new collection as well.

They don't care if you paid for all three separately or got them all at once in the collection, if you have the content IDs you get the cape.

Actually, I wonder if its possible to release a version for PS2 that doesn't use the hard disk drive. Obviously this would present a problem with updates, but the PS2 does have a USB slot they might be able to release a storage accessory for; or they could find some supermegaawesome memory card to go with. It would solve the problem of everyone without a hard drive being fucked, plus PSTwo.

USB 1.0 is only 10 megaBITS per second. The DVD drive is 11 megaBITS per second, and slow at seeking. I doubt the memory card is much faster. The HD is (probably) IDE 33 megaBYTES per second.

I'd have been happy if Sony had just allowed it to use a regular hard drive. It's not like they don't already lock the install to your console. Or if they had offered a PS3 with the PS2 BC at extra cost. It also would have helped if VC08-360 hadn't sold out before the pre-WoTG 360 version!

If I start playing again in February or so, I'll probably pick up the 360 version and go with that. (Will MS ever let you install a version that doesn't require the freaking disk to start it up?)
