(09/29/2009)  Not content to rest until each and every adventurer in Vana'diel is sending a steady stream of gil into their already ample coffers, Goldagrik and his lovable band of Maze Mongers are cooking up some deviously delightful new diversions for you in the upcoming version update. Read on for the details! ---- Goldagrik's crack team of dungeon designers has been working overtime, racking their brains to come up with some scrumptious surprises for stalwart spelunkers across Vana'diel.
It's the ultimate test of endurance and skill. No, not arm wrestling with Chatnachoq—we're talking fishing! Descend to a subterranean fishing hole and compete against an all-star team of some of the most accomplished anglers in the three nations for a chance at fame and fortune! But be forewarned: you'll be playing by Moblin Maze Monger rules... 
Seasoned adventurers know that creative use of Maze Runes is the key to maximizing one's enjoyment in MMM, and will be pleased to see a new assortment of runes, as well as ingenious new effects when combining existing runes with the new voucher. Furthermore, adroit anglers who prove their worth in the new MMM fishing challenge will be richly rewarded with items that will serve them particularly well in their piscine pursuits!  Goldagrik and the gang are going all out to ensure that their newest product will prove to be a delightful challenge for accomplished anglers and beginners alike, so don't hesitate to give it a go after the next version update! ---- And another annoying alliteration . . . What I got from that: even Goldagrik knows how unpopular MMM has become, so he knows the perfect method to attract everybody and their grandmother to his service: fishing! Considering that this is MMM, however, you're going to need to fish up 3 of one kind of fish, 5 of another, and 7 of a last one before actually completing the voucher. And the fish are all Rare/Ex. Also: No items; Mithra only; Ghoyu's Reverie.

I know it sounds crazy, but there are people than enjoy fishing in this game. Considering there are way more people that seem to enjoy being around douchebags all the time for a rare chance at getting an item they'll never put to good use, I'm at least going to have to give those that enjoy fishing some credit.

Hai. I can see how this can be confusing at first, but it's very clearly meant to increase the rate at which you wear down fish. At least I would hope so but knowing our Dev Team... $10 says it really does tire out the player faster on patch day and gets fixed in emergency maint. |

It still doesn't help with the basic problem, which is that nobody plays MMM anymore since they nerfed the marble rewards, with which you could buy nothing but more maze runes and some tchotchkes. (In other words, stuff that won't give you either gil or XP.) When the nerfhammer hit, people were still trying to farm for enough runes so that they could do something other than lv 1 mule marble farming someday. Sure, a few crazy JPs still go in, and maybe a few people with jobs that can solo in there, but nobody I hang around with does. I suppose it could also be that people just got tired of marble/rune farming by the time of the nerf, and SE simply put in way too much stuff that you felt like you needed to get before you could play it seriously. Either way, I have no hope of soloing that shit, and nobody else to go in with.

I lost all interest when SE killed the marbles you can get per run AFTER PUBLICLY STATING THEY HAD NO PROBLEM WITH IT WHATSOEVER.
