Got hit with this a couple of days ago, my card for credit account was expiring and I already had been issued a new one. It seems like only one Bank in New Zealand actually supports Verified by Visa and/or MasterCard Secure, despite the fact that they are Australian firms (Is that the applicable word?) and they all support it over there. Rung my bank and fail. How I got around it was I contacted in-game friend who uses PS2 & PS3... got them to change my information. Not very happy with SquareEnix at the moment.What annoys me the most is that I had to jump through hoops just to change 3 numbers. THREE.

Uhm, question. I'm updating my payment to a new card and bank, and I registered my card with Verified by Visa with no problems. Updated the payment information and everything cleared. Does this mean I'm good to go? Or is it possible it's going to fuck up when they charge me at the start of the month?

I got hit with this today. Originally I wasn't too stressed about the change at first because my credit card doesn't expire until late next year. Citibank doesn't participate in the program yet but will (supposedly) by the time I'm issued an updated card. Despite that, I got an email from Playonline this morning informing me that my billing information has been removed "..due to not being registered with or verified as a 3-D Secure enabled payment method..". I thought this was only supposed to affect players who attempted to change their billing information after July 29th? I haven't touched mine since July 2nd. Now, the email I received this morning told me I would be able to access my account and play the game up through September 1st, but this wasn't true. When I tried to log in this morning I was informed that my playonline account had been canceled. After reactivating it I saw that all my content IDs were canceled as well, and I'm unable to reactivate them. I contacted SE on the phone and was told that my only option is to "run out and get a new card". When I asked why I wasn't given until September 1st as the email stated or why I had even run into this problem to begin with since I hadn't touched my billing information after July 29th, I was told that apparently the system was canceling IDs early to avoid billing issues and that it was targeting anyone who had updated their information in the past several months despite the given dates in the notices. In the end they said there was nothing that could be done other than getting a new card and reactivating my IDs. I had auctions running and things in my delivery box, and with my content IDs canceled I'm not even sure what will happen to them. |

I have to say.. SE is a bold (for lack of a better term) company. Let's face it.. the game is fairly dated (with all the flaws and limitations that come with that), a newer online Final Fantasy game has been announced and is around the corner, customer support doesn't really seem interested in working with me on this ( I'm not sure why they tell people without a 3-D secure compatible card to call their non-toll free number where you end up waiting 30 minutes on hold if the only advice they're willing to offer you is to "run out and get a new card"), and there are a lot of other shiny new MMOs hitting the online market soon. My point is, this game doesn't really need to make any extra efforts to make itself less appealing. And yet here we are.. the first MMO I've ever encountered which requires a 3-D secure card. Blaze that trail, SE! |

I haven't logged this week, but it would be interesting if I was hit by this since I just changed my card info a few months ago (old card expired.)

Wow ... that is fucking bullshit. Good fucking job, SE. Good fucking job. Congrats on screwing your long time customers out of playing your game when a really good percentage of the cards out there don't even use SecureCode/VBV.
