I think the best proof that ffxi is a knowledge based game and not a skill based one is that when people fuck up, we're far more inclined to just call them idiots than to say they're just bad players.

Well a bad player is someone who's classified as someone who makes these little fuck ups, then keeps making them. And others. And never fixes their mistakes. The ones who just can't learn what it is they're supposed to do.

He just said you can play golf. Not that you'd be any good at it. I mean sure, I can play golf. I suck donkey balls at it though.

True, but he was making a direct comparison between my statement that I can play almost any job in FFXI well just by reading up on it and reading up on Golf to play well. It was a flawed comparison. You can't be a pro golfer by reading, but you sure as hell can be "pro" in FFXI by reading.

Well to an extent I agree, but I will also stand by my statement that (at least for WHM) you need to have some level of reflexes and ability to think fast. I can know that Voiceless Storm inflicts Silence all day, but unless I'm prepared to hit a Sliena macro or type //silena name, I'm no better than the person who doesn't know that Voiceless Storm inflicts Silence.

So I'll still stand by my statement that it's a twofold skillset to be good at this game. Knowledge and reflexes.

but the thing is, you get a ton of time from when you see the name of an ability to react to it; and with as simple as the reactions are in FFXI, it's really hard to call that a skill.

You might have quick reflexes, but you're not that much better off than someone who sees "Ok, my party members are silenced, I need to remove it" and knows how to. Knowing how to press a macro or cast a spell isn't a skill.
