I haven't done an awful lot in Campaign as yet but the one thing that does keep putting me off is the whole erosion of your achievement if you don't keep doing it day after day.

Re: Campaign Gets Reinforcements! (06/15/2009)

Only 2 medals? That sucks.

However, HOLY CRAP THE LAST REMNANT!

As soon as I saw the word "Union" I immediately knew they were expanding alliances (in TLR, You fight in groups called unions and you could have up to 5 of them on your side participating in massive battles)

Ever since WotG came out I was wondering if we could ever get our hands on Ancient Currency... and we can! holy shit. I wonder though will it strictly be our currency our beastman as well? I know it says Dynamis so I have my doubts but you never know, could also possibly get ancient beast coins...

Either way this is just the kick campaign needed. Two things still bug me though;

1) What's up with that skinny, flying demon shown?

2) What's going to happen to the older areas? ANNMs are popular and all but with the potential for currency to be obtained participation in those areas is sure to plummet.

Overall, WIN-FUCKING-WIN SE.

Heh, that's exactly what I thought as well when I saw "Union" and read the details. TLR's battle music and the fights kept popping up in my head as I kept reading.

I'll be amused if SE's releasing Dynamis currency like this due to the fact that they anticipate a large number of people moving to FFXIV, thereby reducing the average participation of Dynamis and making Relic completion too hard to obtain. At least my dream of Gungnir and Aegis won't completely die out just yet.

Re: Campaign Gets Reinforcements! (06/15/2009)

Anything to lower the price of currency, damn impatient people made the price of silvers go up to nearly 2mil. Last year they were half that. And idiots keep paying those retarded high prices ... /sigh.

I hope this is fun to do and worth people's time. I hope the drop rate doesn't suck. And I hope it causes currency prices to be fucking reasonable again.

My guess, Unions will just be anyone with Tags on and will allow party buffs to work on everyone. As Smn already does now, other jobs will be able to follow suit. As such they won't be bigger then Parties/Alliances, it'll just be less restricting then Parties/Alliances.

I currently have the highest rank, and have had it for months. And currently, the most I'll campaign is once every few weeks. It's not hard at all to keep a rank and it doesn't take day to day maintenance to keep it up. Hell, even if you're gone for years and come back the most rank you'll ever lose is one medal. Because you have to accept the loss by talking to the NPC for the counter to reset again. It's really not that big of a deal.

Skinny flying demons are Gargoyles, mobs that have been in the dats for the past two updates, and the way they described Unions is that they'll happen in *all* campaign zones and not just the north.

Speaking of the Northlands, there better be Trolls.

As for jobs that get the shaft in campaign, I can only really count three. Blm, Sch and Smn. The only three jobs who truly suck at meleeing. Every other class, especially Rdm, have the potential to excel at campaign because of all the tools at their disposal. As a War with no Dnc sub, the only thing I can really do well in Campaign is Melee, hell even my thf, who solos most grunts without effort, can only get points through pure melee because I'm evading dmg and that doesn't count towards Exp. But jobs like Rdm and Whm can melee, buff, nuke, enfeeble, cure, take Dmg, raise so forth and so on. That being said, if they could adjust Cure, Nuke and Buff exp caps, it would help all three of those jobs...but it would also boost exp gained by every other mage job or DD/Dnc. So it's a delicate balance as is. Though I guess increasing magic Dmg caps to match that of melee dmg caps would be a big step in fixing all three.

What server are you on? Windy owns all zones but Oz on Carbuncle this week, and the other nations have 4-5. Sounds like people on your server can't be bothered to defend (let alone attack). IIRC beastmen show up to defend their forts pretty often anyway - on defense you can sometimes sit 5-10 min waiting for them with absolutely *nothing* to do, so even pounding walls is better than that.

...Well, I guess the reward structure has something to do with people's willingness to campaign, so the new union and AN loot will help on that front, anyway.

I find that I get the most campaign exp by tanking (of course, that includes meleeing too, but I do less damage with a tank setup). Although my record exp was from kiting some BLM quadav NM for a really long time on my RDM, at a battle with no friendly NPCs and hardly any PCs, that took a really long time so I think tanking still beat it in exp/hr terms. Still, no matter your tactics, campaign exp isn't going to stack up to a good exp party, if you can get into one reasonably quickly.

Jobs that are really good soloers might be better off doing that, too. Considering BLMs can just go solo VTs, I don't think I'll be crying for their low campaign rewards, even if they can't make a good exp rate with CC and enfeebles. (I have a couple tactical ideas for that, but since I'm only BLM50, I don't know how they would work out in practice. Maybe someone who has earned good campaign exp on BLM should describe their tactics.)

Re: Campaign Gets Reinforcements! (06/15/2009)

If I was to speculate I'd say most of the balance issues between fronts come from how crappy rewards for fighting SCNM in Windy/Basty areas are compared to Sandy*.

Fenrir is the same, Windy/Basty always get pwned even though you always see a lot of people fighting Campaign there. Also, you see La Vaule NM drops for sale at the AH fairly often but rarely see any from the other 2 beastmen strongholds.

*If SCNM fights have that much of an impact that is. So I could be wrong.

Dude, you're on Carbuncle, too?

Because if so I have an indignant correction to make, as Sandy currently owns all possible zones save La Vaule, as well.

And the Orcs are trying to attack zones as far back as East Ronfaure. And are horribly failing at it.

SE sure know how to take "system" from other games and make it their own. (just like level sync!)

This union can actually be see in Warhammer online. Taking part of a battle in a keep will earn you rights to "random" loots base on your performance higher rating you get.

Re: Campaign Gets Reinforcements! (06/15/2009)

I'm guessing that a coffer will pop and everyone in the union will be able to look inside. Everyone will see different items that are unique to the person and the items inside will depend on how much the person has contributed to the fight.

Sounds like a good idea, but SE has a tendency to make anything with a connection to treasure or rewards sound good in their pre-release update notes, and then somehow completely mess it up. Effectively crushing all of our hopes and dreams of them adding something truly worthwhile. I bet just like everything else, 95% of the time we'll only see potions and other items worth only 100g.

Re: Campaign Gets Reinforcements! (06/15/2009)

Glad to see I'm not the only TLR fan here =3

I can't wait to see how unions play out. I am very much hoping PT-only spells will work on other people (like Erase).

*fires up some TLR music*

How are they going to account for participation levels though? Will it penalize anyone who can cure but doesn't? I know Campaign is the only real outlet for mages to melee safely but there are way too many who just neglect their mage duties altogether during campaign. I for one, hope this system beats these assfucks into the ground and screws them over hard.

If the guy next to you is taking all the hits (and consequently if he dies you're next) then you should damn well bloody cure him a little. Makes me sick to keep the nastier mobs off mages only to die from lack of support (though I get a good laugh when the mob turns to their negligent asses and drops them in just a few hits; serves them right) I'm a team player.

Ooh, you're clever!

All MMOs borrow from other MMOs from time-to-time. There's really no harm in it.

The details on the Union system have been pretty vague so far. You don't know how similar it's going to be to Warhammer Online's public quests.
