SE has an incentive. FFXI is supposed to be a game without borders. They've never done a good job of handling multiple platforms. They almost had it when they released it on 360, but they're fallen behind again.

Given the fact that all PS3s have Hard Drives, and all PS3s have network support, and it would be absolutely impossible to remove those features because of console-selling games (MGS4, for example) demand them, there's really no reason SE would think Sony could screw them over with a PS3 port.

It's not a matter of esoteric hardware like it was on the PS2. It's using parts of the console that nearly every single game is going to use.

I mean, it's TECHNICALLY possible to have Wii games load from an external hard drive, but I don't think that's really needed for FFXI at this point. Also, doesn't the PS2 version use lower resolution textures anyway, to take up less space? Macros would be stored in your save file, pictures would be posted to the message board. You don't need friend codes if you don't use Nintendo's servers, apparently. I'm 100% sure without external storage, FFXI would not work on the Wii. Unless, I guess, they released a new DVD with every major update....

Also I'm 100% sure resolution has nothing to do with storage space. (Texture sizes do, but the textures on PS2/PC/360 are all the same size, I can't imagine they'd make new textures for Wii.)

Also ya, I don't see anywhere on that scan that mentions FFXI going to PS3.

Oh. duh. I was thinking new DVDs at expansions, completely overlooked updates.

Although, a new DVD for every update wouldn't be that bad. There are gaming magazines that send out demo disks with every issue that only cost a couple dollars to make, and they have to have software for those. FFXI would be much simpler to update, and only need it about quarterly. It would be a simple matter to mail out new disks before every few months. About all they'd need is new cover art, and to ship them out in advance of the update to people with Wiis registered to their account.

And I know resolution in terms of image quality doesn't make a difference, which is why I said texture resolution, as in how many pixels (and thus bytes) are put into the textures. I'm unsure if the PS2 does or does not have smaller textures or not, hence the comment.

Down in the bottom left it says 7 year anniversary (it's cut off but presumably FFXI). The text above is cut off but alludes to some kind of guide in the magazine, I guess about FFXI as it mentions the Zilart.
Other than that there's nothing relating to FFXI on there, I can see.

The PS2 disk will work on the PS3, but if you dont have the PS hard drive compatibilty patch it would try to install FFXI on a PS2 8mb virtual memory card.

if it is going to PS3 it will just be the PS2 version repacked, they already said there would be no PS3 version, due to time and money sent on redoing some of it for the hardware...
