S-E brainstorms on what they could do to make sure these hundreds of thousands of plastic keychains sell so they don't take a giant hit on the manufacture of them.

Tadaaaaa, 80 inventory space as a bonus.
When they first announced it, they said there would be a bonus but they didn't say what. They intended to entice people right from the start but this sure is a HUGE carrot they are dangling!

For all of you who have to piss and moan even when SE gives you an opportunity to buy something that you pissed and moaned you DIDN'T have but wanted, think of it like this. You are buying a very small expansion and in that expansion you get an in game item. So just like you bought expansions before, that gave you the opportunity to expand your gobbie bag, now you are buying another small expansion that gives you the opportunity to expand your gobbie bag!

Why should they GIVE you something when they can make money on it. They are a business first. They certainly didn't give you any of the expansions for free did they? Why should they start giving stuff away now? They are out to make money, it's that simple. They heard your pleas for more storage (YAY! Why isn't anyone happy they actually are doing something we want!?) so now they are going to give that to you for a small fee...just like they have with all the gobbie bag quests in the past. I guess they could wait and put it in a huge expansion that has a whole bunch of useless shit in it that they dole out in increments to you over time for a $40 fee OR they could just cut out the middle man and let you buy it straight up. Guess they decided to take the latter route.

YAY MORE STORAGE SPACE THAT I"VE BEEN WANTING FOR YEARS! FINALLY SE! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

Re: Square Enix Security Token Release Date Details (03/31/2009)

Boy would it ever cause a stir if that were the case.

But oh, the lols we would have.

And yeah, $10 is jackshit, I'm not worried about that. I just think it's kinda sleazy the way they enticed us to buy this thing.

I thought the same thing, it was April 1st in Japan at the time I think lol. I'd be pretty bummed though, I can't overstate the impact that an additional 80 spots will have on my enjoyment of the game.

The world would be better off if it was a April fool's joke.

Plus it would be one of those rare times where I could actually say "Well played SE, well played."

With the current state of our economy, I'm sure that would raise the value of the bill.

Ummm, you guys remember that the total number of users on all servers is said to be about 500,000? And I seem to recall that doesn't even say whether those are individual paying accounts or just the number of active characters including the $1 mules. They'd be doing good to sell 50,000 of these.

But the main reason I'm annoyed about the requirement to buy and use the token to get the extra inventory space is that I'm strictly a PS2 user for FFXI (I only have one Windows 2000 computer set up, just to play videos in the living room, everything else is OS X), and there's been no indication of any account theft problems ever with the PS2 version, other than the obvious social hacks like someone stupid enough to answer a random /tell with their POL password, or sharing their password with a housemate who later wants revenge for something. And when my PS2 hard drives die, I'll go to 360, which only adds the possibility of shenanigans through Xbox Live.

I use the auto-logon, so sure, someone could steal my PS2 and get on my account. But they could steal the token too.

Re: Square Enix Security Token Release Date Details (03/31/2009)

So, this thing is essentially a portable mog safe... meaning while your inventory is still 80, you have another inventory that's also 80? Not really useful for holding extra gear that you need to swap out, but things like NM pops, loot, or whathaveyou...

I wonder if there is a way to make drops automatically go into the satchel?

FFXI Linkshell Beta community. Ever use it? Ever use it after visiting FFIX.somepage, or ffxiclopedia? You're [royal you] account information can be just as vulnerable. Using nothing but the PS2 to log on removes one avenue to have your account details sniffed, but that is not the only way.

The token on it's own is useless. After you activate the token, your account information on it's own is also useless. Neither single piece of information would give you access to a FFXI account, you must have both. By this logic there is no point in locking your car because ya, they could steal your car by hot-wiring it, but they could steal your keys too.

I highly doubt this is an April Fool's joke. Only a fool would release a joke days before the actual day.

OMG.....this could be an April Fool's day joke!!
