Re: "A Crystalline Prophecy" Site Updated and Advance Order Date Announced! (03/16/20

RDMs need some toy that'll keep them happy without actually being very useful. How about a spell that reduces delay to 0, as well as Attack? Basically Hundred Fists, but with the side effect of hitting for 0. Would be interesting to see how it combines with en- spells. Maybe have a side effect where it still feeds the mob TP, depending on how broken it would be without it. Someone who actually know the damage calculations want to figure up how that would work? Armaaaaaaaaaandoooooo~

Hundred Fists is far different from setting TP to 0; it simply reduces your Delay by a very large amount, apparently the equivalent of 74% Haste if FFXIClopedia is to be believed. 0 Delay would be impossible and would theoretically result in an infinite number of swings at the moment of engaging, killing the mob instantly. 1 Delay would be the closest thing, and that would be grossly broken; 60 swings per second would be absurd; even my PLD's gimpy 15 damage Enspells would rack up to 900 damage per second that way; a RDM's damage could probably break 1.5k damage per sec with a 1 Delay weapon.

Anyways, if you made this hypothetical spell give 74% Haste, and the RDM were single-wielding a Joyeuse, the result would be a delay of 0.97 seconds between attack rounds, which would work out to 1.49 swings per second on average when you factor in the 45% multi-hit proc rate. A 75 RDM with 8/8 Enhancing merits, NQ AF, an Enhancing Torque would be working with 296 Enhancing Skill, which is a 19 damage Enspell. Assuming no resists, that would mean an average of 28 damage per second, which would be quite formidable - comparable to a melee using a weapon (or pair of weapons) with a DPS of 14, with capped Attack (average PDIF = 2). This is without taking resists into account, but the potential is there.

However, I don't quite like the idea. Since the melee damage will be 0, and your melee-only Haste will be maxed out, it trivializes STR, Attack, and Haste gear, as well as the weapon's DPS. Even if the damage were toned down, the spell's effectiveness basically depends only on being able to hit, and having the best attack frequency possible (which implies either single wielding a multi-hit weapon or dual wielding two of them; a multihit/no-multihit pairing is inferior to both.)

ah, I always figured that explanation of the delay thing was broken. The best I could figure was that it was based on movement animations somehow.

I actually like the side effect of making STR/Attack/Haste irrelevant to damage; as a mage, I think it suits RDM better. And Haste would still be useful for recast timers. The weapon being irrelevant is a bit of an issue, but that could be changed by adjusting enspells so that their damage is partially based on DMG:. Obviously it would need some tweaking to get working in any capacity, but it'd be a pretty neat little spell. Plus, again, toy factor.

I feel that making damage gear and weapon choice (besides multi-hitters) trivial isn't a good way to go about it though. Every RDM will perform practically the same. You could tweak the spell to avoid any broken behavior but I still dislike that aspect of homogenizing everyone's performance.

I'd rather see a more elaborate new game mechanic introduced than something as straightforward as messing around with the casters' delay and damage per swing. Ideally something that makes use of enspells in new ways.

well, again, small tweaks to enspells could make the damage more varied. But I'm just talking about something that's small and fun to play around with, but not very practical or useful. Or maybe toss in something like FFXII's telekenesis; deal ranged damage with regular attacks.

Tidbit about the Armors pulled off JP Button:

Quote:
Q: It says you can add two additional stats to the armor, but can I re-obtain the equipment if I end up not liking my choices?

A: It is possible to re-obtain equipment as many times as you wish by throwing away the piece of equipment in question, and then once again fulfilling the necessary requirements for obtaining it.

As for stats and abilities… you can look forward to seeing that presented on the official site in the near future!

I don't know why but when I read this quote and coupled it with Armando's signature...

I just busted out laughing.
