And once you have one, logging on to your FFXI account will be more secure then logging onto your Banks website.

BTW, WoW charges $6.50 for theirs and other then the skin it looks exactly the same as this one. I would expect SE to charge about the same.

Re: Introducing the Square Enix Security Token (03/10/2009)

We're getting a security item with a shiny - why does there need to be an argument about a bonus?

Dunno how bad I'll need one. Been playing almost five years and I'm still the only one that knows my account ID and password, if its cheap enough, I'll go for it, though..

Then again, many of us addicts are waaay more worried about having our POL account hacked than we would ever be about our bank one.

Some things can't be bought, for everything else... well you know the rest.

What happens when it breaks or runs out of batteries?

You already know the answer to that question. But hopefully their delivery service is fast enough.

Re: Introducing the Square Enix Security Token (03/10/2009)

Well the one I use has a battery life of 5 years+, but of course there's no gaurantee their's will be the same.

For 6.50 this would definitely be worth it.

Re: Introducing the Square Enix Security Token (03/10/2009)

I'd probably request a new one every year because they are cheap. But I can see someone easily going 2 or 3 years without having to replace it (it uses way less battery than a watch, that's for sure.)

For some reason I had a notion ringing in the back of my brain when I read this . . .

. . . SE found a solution for non-approved Windower . . .

Just my thoughts, not that it's much of a huge deal anymore.

I'm holding out for a Defending Ring as the in-game shiny given with this.

My only question is how does it synchronize with your POL account?

Seeing that they charged an asinine amount for their Tidal Talisman necklace that was a pos, I see them charging at least $25 for this.

Every key generator has a serial number in the back. All you'd probably need to do is register that serial number on POL. SE will have that serial number paired with the algorithms (or whatever they are called) that particular device is using to generate random keys.

I don't think they will charge more than 10 bucks for it.*

*Plus 25 bucks for shipping and handling.

Re: Introducing the Square Enix Security Token (03/10/2009)

Not interested ... it's a good idea for people who don't share their account, and I suggest that those people get it. For me, it's just too convenient to tell CK to log me on and take me to DA or Nashmau before events. They will make a killing off this. I'm just going to continue to do what I can to keep my shit secure and not randomly hand my account information out to people.

Some of my ls members hand accounts around like they're a joint, I'm not all into that. But I do like being able to have my boyfriend log me in when needed. If I can get two for one account, I'll do it, otherwise, I probably won't get this.

Re: Introducing the Square Enix Security Token (03/10/2009)

Aksannyi, it would still be pretty damn secure to just tell him what the password is currently. Even over something as insecure as a bluetooth headset or IM, it's exceptionally unlikely that anyone would be able to break into your account in that short a time and do any damage, and even moreso that they'd be able to use it for future logins. A number that most people will forget anyway + changing every minute = a pretty strong damn password, regardless of how loud you are about telling them. And then there's the fact that POL uses account numbers and not names to log in; and it's not exactly easy to guess at what someone's is.

Also, crazy-ass boyfriend insurance. Can't beat that.

Re: Introducing the Square Enix Security Token (03/10/2009)

Haha, yeah, just if I'm in the middle of class it's a bit hard to tell him what the password thingy says. Typically I'm trying to hide the fact that I'm texting him, and with my slow ass phone network there's no guarantee it will get to him in time for a proper login, lol.
