My only beef with using the Neck slot is that Sea Torques are f'ing amazing for their respective jobs. Though, when considering the effort and likelyhood of getting one it's a fair compromise.

I simply macro in my Light and Shadow Gorgets when I pop my WSs off. The rest of the time is spent wearing Chiv Chain.

Chuchulain's accessories seem to be rather popular lately, and for good reason, so that's another thing to work for. Any reward for finishing Wings should be at least as good as its own accessoris.

Aren't we getting a bit ahead of ourselves? We are assuming that whatever reward we are given will actually be worth using. I wouldn't get to worried about what slot or it conflicting with another piece of valuable armor just yet.

I don't care about gear, they can give an (Insect wing) as reward for all I care. I just hope the fights are good and the rest of the story interesting.

Although I seriously doubt even Altana herself would be as epic as Prishe.

Although in my opinion Feet is an even more useless slot for a lot of jobs for a really large part of the game, but that won't fly.

Back and waist would clash with CoP Dynamis belts and capes, as well as sea obis, the MNK belts and some capes from Limbus (boxer's, etc.). Oh, and the capes that come from ix'aerns. Neck would conflict with sea torques (both the skill and ws types) for melees - for mages there's a variety of not-too-awesome neck items (the bcnm skill torques, ugg pendant, etc.) that you could probably surpass fairly easily.

Every piece of equipment is going to conflict with other equipment in the same slot - it's the nature of equipment - but monks would have a right to be pissed if they had to choose between black belt or the mission reward, I think. The awesomeness of monk belts relative to other belts has probably already been taken into account in job balancing, so by pushing everyone to the same level of belt quality, monks would lose a comparative advantage. On the other hand if the new belts were "only" on the level of Ninurta's Sash, why would a brown belted monk be interested?

Frankly, I don't envy the dev team the task of designing stats on new items so that players will want them but they won't push power levels too far. There's only so many ways you can slice that (especially when you consider how much players can gain from gear swapping). I think they may be forced into a situation where new rewards aren't better, just different, and players who already have *all* the old stuff have little to gain from the new stuff.

Not one of those things is a Mission reward. They're good items, but there are already great rings and earrings outside of the storyline's gear. Infact many people take Snipers+1 over Ulth's ring because outside of ToAU events, it's really not that great.

Mission rewards should be great, but not the absolute best over every other possible option in every possible situation. And a new neck piece could easily be added to fit that spot.
