Its a marketing move they use and abuse, and its getting old :-(

They like surprises and think we like them too.

Though to be fair, the last few weekly update notes have gone into great depths when talking about their specific subjects. Level Sync was explained in great detail, the changes to Nyzul were given a very thorough walk through, and they explained seal storage and the changes to Dyna/Limbus pretty clearly. If anything, I'm expecting lots of details to come rolling out in the next few weeks.

Re: Version Update News (11/04/2008)

I'm somewhat hopeing that in light of all the endgame content they've added, SE is going to consider adding a REAL guild system to FFXI instead of glorified chatrooms in which people make up thier own rules that are easy to abuse.

The more endgame widens, the more difficult DKPs are to manage and the more they are susecptable to abuse.

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about, S-E's most logical option in the matter would be EEE.

Goodness, yes. People! Please donate to the "Yellow Mage may actually need to *pay* people to help him get rid of his Red Cryptex" fund! It's a worthy cause!

Anyways, my Paladin, White Mage (18) and potential Blue Mage are definitely looking forward to the new low-level content, though it may just be an extension of the Tutorial NPC quests. =/

Also, with the exception of "new systems" (solely on account of their nebulousness), I see nothing in terms of job/battle adjustments. Le sigh. =/

Still, "unlike anything you've seen in Vana'diel before?" I'm not sure if they'll top the September Update, but they seem to be aiming pretty high anyway.

Why? There are several pieces of gear that are clearly meant to be used as gear swaps only. There's nothing particularly broken about the system except the silly limitations S-E imposes on us with their 6-line macro limits and unresponsive user interface that forces people to lean on Windower's features.

I don't think it's just a matter of backlash, but balance too. Mobs and jobs and gear would all need pretty serious overhauling to keep things sane. But regardless, whether or not it's sensible to have gear swaps implemented at all, it's certainly not sensible to have them implemented poorly.

If you want a game that forbids gear-swapping, I believe you're looking for WoW, amoung others. But then, that's a game that obseletes gear by each new expansion. Would you like FFXI to start to ahere to that broken and traditional design or would you rather have a game where old gear remains useful and relevant?

The PvP penalties for swapping are stupid and it would be much more stupid to impose them in normal gameplay. I'm sorry you don't have cool stuff yet, but that shouldn't mean we're all gimped in your favor. Save that noise for level capped missions.

People work hard for their gear, so that gear should retain a meaning in normal play. Otherwise we have a lot fo useless crap in this game.

And honestly, if you ever want to be a RDM that taps the full potential of the job if and when new Enspells come, you'll make full use of gear swap. Or you'll be the lolmeleeRDM, slapping on that scorpion harness and thinking that's all the work you have to do.

Job adjustments could be part of this for all you know, maybe they just stopped mentioning them so they could stop hearing RDM, SMN and NIN cry about not getting any new toys to play with.

At any rate, I'd rather see these jobs updated when the time is right and the adjustments are thought out rather than see these jobs get shinies "just cuz."

And we know whatever the new summons are, they more than likely require a story tie-in, so until they show up in the story, nada.

Re: Version Update News (11/04/2008)

If they did not intend the majority of gear to be used as situational swap pieces then they A) did an absurdly terrible job of implementing the game system according to their intentions and B) added about 10 times more gear than what would ever be neccesary.

I'm still holding out hope for what I feel would be the two biggest system-related changes: Increase of macro lines to an acceptable amount(10) and instanced Dynamis.

Add: And at least 10 more inventory spaces.

The latter would be the best update ever.

Re: Version Update News (11/04/2008)

The former would keep me happy for a longtime, I'm kind of disheartened lately that now that I finally got my hat, I'm pretty much forced to play on PC to keep my playstyle up. I by far prefer playing on 360 but it's gotten to the point where the macro line limitations flat out cannot accommodate the amount of gear that I have.

I personally feel the penalties wouldn't be stupid at all, if implemented from day one. That was the case for PvP, that was quite obviously not the case for the rest of the game.

I am aware that gear-swapping becomes absolutely crucial later on, and I've grown to accept that. I don't have to like it, but I accept it.

Also, that's the second or third time I've seen you use the word "noise," and all in a pretty short time frame.

The reason you can't swap gear in PvP isn't about balance, it's because trying to PvP people when them changing gear cancels your targeting of them would be absolutely pointless.

I never said anything about balance, I just said it was there from day one. Why it was there was never mentioned.
