A few months ago. $2, because you could pic up that trial of basic FFXI at stores for that. Now, free, because of the 14 day trial.

And since I'm not one to break the chain *flashes crowd*

Well the $2 thing gives a 30 day free trial iirc, but does need the card to sign up. So at the very least, they could hook up a cheap fish/craft bot in towns to make a quick buck. As shown by the charts, it's the low level botting that has been on the excessive uprise while things needed developed characters have taken a noticable drop. Outside of using hacked accounts, it's much harder and riskier for RMT to bot NMs and such because the ban will be that much more effective. But using a lvl 1 character from free/cheap samples will net them more money in the long run.
