PROTIP: Torrent downloads. Require very little of your own bandwidth, and they don't fuck over your existing customers (such as people with scratched disks).

They could've even make a free (as in, free, not as in "buy this and get that included") 14 day or so trial.

THREE STEPS TO MAKING FFXI'S DISTRIBUTION NOT SUCK:

1- Put a bittorrent cilent in POL (THIS CAN EVEN BE USED FOR FFXI UPDATES!)
2- Put the entire game in there (THIS CAN EVEN BE USED ALONGSIDE FFXI UPDATES!)
3- Promote a small download of POL's setup.exe (YOU ALREADY DISTRIBUTE THIS, JUST PUT A NOTICE ON THE FRONT PAGE AND TELL PEOPLE TO TELL THEIR FRIENDS)

Bam, problem solved. You can even have POL clients torrent in the background to help your bandwidth, and help out during those agonizing update periods! I know, the technology is only like four or five years old, but you can do it SE!
