I would likely find something I considered shit eventually. The difference is that I'm mature enough to see art that isn't pleasing to me and still respect and tolerate the effort behind it and keep my personal comments about it to myself.

Prime example - I used to work at a record store years ago. Heard music I didn't like every day, but I knew that there were those amoung my customers that would like what we played in store so I made it a point to listen to other bands and artists like them anyway.

I got a lot of return customers because I simply did my homework, read up on the bands and artists and suggested these other bands similar to those bands - whether I liked them or not. I read interviews with those bands, read about what they liked, what they listened to. One does not have to like the artform to understand and appreciate it how it may appeal to others. I made it a point to know about gospel, bluegrass, R&B metal, rap, jazz, classical and country. I'm mostly into rock, hiphop and hybrid music genres, not that other stuff, but I do pick up on an artist from those other generes sometimes and end up liking them.

But I didn't just do that because it was a job, but because I was a fan of music and knew there was more to music than just what was on the radio or MTV.

I have an idea for something, though I doubt I'll get time to actually do it, which sucks.

I rather liked last year's entries to the fan art contest, I don't know why there's such a controversy here over it. No one said you have to like everything that people create. Heaven knows why the judges chose what they did, but hell it was their decision and let's just leave it at that.

If you think you have an idea that you want to enter, why not try? I'm going to try to sketch something out and maybe even finish something to submit as long as I have the time. I'll post images here first before I submit (if I do it!) and I hope I won't be judged so harshly, although I'm not afraid of constructive criticism, calling something "crap" isn't really helping anyone. You wouldn't want your work to be called crap, even if you called it crap yourself. It's the same as me saying, "I'm an idiot," I can say it and that's fine, but if someone else tells me that it's going to piss me off.

Maybe not the best analogy but you get the idea. Anyway, I'm gonna get to work on some sketches now.

My guess, bad memories. People say that all the pics that won sucked, yet when asked only remember that one *really* bad image that was mentioned based solely on the fact that it was a really bad image...done in a humorous way. Of all the submissions made, I think there's only three I would judge as "bad" and only one of those that were both "bad" and done with no real unique concept behind it.

As for your idea, I say go for it. The more fanart the better. Sadly this forum's fanart section is dreadfully slow, so any contribution would be great.

I should really get off my lazy ass and draw more myself, but oh well *goes back to loafing about*

Though the thing that really makes that pic "lol" worthy is the fact that there ARE women Beastmen out there (and not just lamia) and that they look exactly like all the other beastmen. I think the only real exception are Antican, who have a single queen who produces all the others like many insect spiecies do.
