7 was what got me hooked on RPGs, the FF series and the Playstation Brand ^^ As such I'm still a proud fan of all 3 (well, not so much 7. The more I reflect on it the more I notice how it was FF6 with a smaller cast) |

I still remember the good old days where men in FF games were men, FFIV was FFII and FFVI was FFIII... then all you whipper snappers came along and ruined it with your high-falootin real numbering.

OMG I remember when there were not strat guides but tip lines!! The number was always in the back of the booklet and you'd spend 15-20 mins on hold before you got someone. When you got the phone bill the call would cost you like $15! lol Can't tell you how many times I'd hear my husband swear after he got the phone bill. lololol

I remember my first encounter with Final Fantasy quite well. I had my first (and so far only) operation when I was 9, and a couple days after, my dad got me FF1. I thought it was OK, but I kinda sucked at it since I wasn't really all that into RPGs. I'd played Dragon Warrior before, and thought it was cool too, but I was more into games like Mario and Mega Man. I didn't really get hooked on FF, and RPGs in general until the next year with FF4 (or FF2 as we knew it back in the day). I remember having a really difficult time at the end with Zeromus. No matter what I did, I simply could not beat the bastard. When I finally won, I was so happy, I felt like I'd won the lottery or something. Over the years, FF has taught many a thing. Hell, Final Fantasy even helped improve my reading skills, and as a result I was reading at a post-high school level by the time I was in sixth grade. It also taught me to get back up no matter how many times your foe "knocked you all down." It also helped to show me that no matter how shitty things may seem, it's always darkest before dawn. |

My first memory of FF is the FF7 TV commercial, specifically the motorcycle and head in the mako reactor is what I remember. But I couldn't afford a PlayStation (or a Nintendo or SNES before that) so I had never played FF, and 7 wasn't going to be the first. Later Napster came along. I was searching for some Enya songs and someone had mislabeled a song FF4-CelticMoon-Enya.mp3. I thought that was odd since I didn't know it was mislabeled and downloaded it. I thought it was really nice and searched for more Final Fantasy music. When I heard Liberi Fatali (the opening title music) I had to get that game. I found out it was released on the PC and I found it in the bargain bin at FutureShop. After that it was 7, then 9 then 6 then 5 then 4 then 10 then X-2, then 1 then (and now) 11 then (eventually) 12.

you mean FF8? My earliest memory of FF is FF8-- got a demo of it on a pizza hut disk, that's about it. I never even beat the demo |

My oldest brother bought Final Fantasy for his NES, and after he'd beaten it, he let me borrow it. I remember freaking out at the amazing innovation of not having to select a menu item to go up and down stairs. Once I got my own copy, that pretty much ended the NES for me. I'd buy or rent other games, but I'd always end up just playing through FF or Zelda or Tetris again. Same thing happened with the two on the SNES and Secret of Mana. To date, I've only ever finished four games with Final Fantasy in the title: I, IV, VI, and Tactics Advance. The rest, I get to the part where you can just explore and do all the side quests and stuff, and gradually lose interest.

I remember seeing FF games when I was little but my mom wouldn't let me buy them cause I wasn't a teenager and they were rated T -_- but in 5th grade a friend got me VIII for my birthday so my mom couldn't say anything lol It took me ~4 months to beat playing at random times and when I did I basically crapped my pants with happiness. I have bought/downloaded all of them from then on and played them all; as stupid as this sounds I felt like (at least when I was little) that they were pretty good for my vocabulary D: not to mention really fun I always recommend them to my friend's siblings, my younger cousins, etc (5thish grade or so age kids who play video games basically) but no one is interested. They think they sound stupid and I get replies like "That's like reading a book." Idk, I guess it is, I love reading (I work in a B&N lol) but to each his own. Seems more like an interactive movie to me but w/e

Age based ratings are silly. Ratings should be based on maturity.

And I doubt anyone here would hold you up as a shining example of letting kids play M rated games. However I will say this, early FF ratings of T were silly (they were rated at all?) since Nintendo required them to essentially be castrated for the North American audience.

I got FFII (US) at a livestock auction. Brought it home and loved it. I must have played it through 5-6 times. I got all the end characters to 99.
