The OFFICIAL "Wings of the Goddess" Preview @ E3 2007 Thread!

There was once a war that shook the very foundations of Vana'diel.
It was a dark and dreadful age.
The lives of many were lost.
The futures of many were destroyed.
The joys of many were extinguished.
However, there are those from that age who remember...
They remember the hope that burned in the darkness.
The companions that banded together.
The heroes that strove onwards.
The rivals that joined forces.
And now history is reborn, as we return to that age of strife...

Preview Images of Wings of the Goddess is available via the FFXIOnline.com Picture Gallery here: http://www.ffxionline.com/cpg/thumbnails.php?album=42
Information about the new monsters and characters are posted in a reply to this thread.

Oh how I wish E3 was still using its traditional style so that I could attend now that the opportunity is available. Must find a way into the video game media....

Re: The OFFICIAL "Wings of the Goddess" @ E3 2007 Thread!

The Magic Box says FFXI WotG will be in video-only form, so I'm not expecting much more than another teaser, but we should find out for certain tomorrow if there are new jobs or not, at the very least. I'm sure SE will update the WotG site soon.

Anyone else thinking this expansion will lead to more Nation exclusive missions? Possibly another tier for rank missions?

Re: The OFFICIAL "Wings of the Goddess" @ E3 2007 Thread!

I have a feeling most of the new missions will indeed take place in each of the original nations. When they take place is what's got me.

Perhaps all the mission lines will take place in the past, and players will be able to take up missions for Windurst, Bastok, San d'Oria and Tavnazia?

We know the past plays an important role in the expansion, but we have absolutely no idea how it does so.

Re: The OFFICIAL "Wings of the Goddess" @ E3 2007 Thread!

It would be interesting if SE uses this to bring the players back to the good old conquest zones. If access to or activities within the new WotG content required spending conquest points (akin to spending IS in order to use Runic Portals, etc), it would encourage players to exp in the conquest zones, and maybe even participate in Expeditionary Forces.

Actually, unless they changed the mobs in Conquest zones to be as stupid easy as they are in ToAU zones, I think you'll find the Wings content to be used about as much as CoP is and the same excuses would be leveled against it.

Re: The OFFICIAL "Wings of the Goddess" @ E3 2007 Thread!

It's a prequel expansion either before/during the war. Obviously you can see from the WotG trailer that many zones if not all have been redone, and take place during that time-period. How one is going to go about getting to/from these new zones is the mystery for now!

Seeing as all the current expansions require you to have high lvl jobs to participate, except CoP [well lvl 30 can still be rather high for new players] I think that WotG's main target is lower lvl zones to start mostly too bring back previous members not wanting to restart with nobody to play with as well as bring a host of new players with the same thoughts. [Are there very many low lvl players still around if I come back/start playing]

I'd love to see Squeenix introduce at least 1 new playable race from before/during the war that was supposedly wiped out. Most likely a new continent where the few survivors fled towards the end of the war, recently discovered like the Eastern lands in ToAU. [its a very workable theory] Also 2-3 new jobs would be interesting, but not needed...

[My guess would be they're survivors of the Tavnazians that were recently discovered, and have decided to send representatives to all the nations like an historian you speak with to learn about what happened before/during the war, and you warp or something into that time period. Get to replay events from the war or something.]

Re: The OFFICIAL "Wings of the Goddess" @ E3 2007 Thread!

I personaly think it is going to be another war. "a tale once lost, is about to be retold" sounds to me like, we better strap up. Not sure, but I think that would be cool. If not, it might be just to get players closer to home. Or maybe, it's nothing that we're expecting.

There is my 2 cents ^^v

edit: I was also thinking, that could also mean it is a part of the war (perhaps, unfinished, like the dark lords boss lol) that we do not know of. Its fun to hypothesize

Re: The OFFICIAL "Wings of the Goddess" @ E3 2007 Thread!

History repeats itself . . . somehow O_o .

BTW, remember the war shown in the opening movie (you know, the one with The Republic of 'Bastük' )?

And that Hume was running with his sister, and then the war started to take a turn for the worse, and then 20 years later . . . he eyes Tavnazia again like he did at the start of the video, but this time, with an army of friends with him?

I wonder if that's going to be given a deeper meaning with WtG?

Re: The OFFICIAL "Wings of the Goddess" @ E3 2007 Thread!

All we know for sure are the following (this is all from SE)

- Time Travel
- New Spells
- New ways to EXP

Also, assuming SE is following the same pattern it started with RotZ, we won't be getting new jobs in this one but in the next one. I think that would suck though, as this is an opportunity to bring back "lost" jobs from the past. Oh, and I believe someone found in the .dats some time ago that there are missions leading up to rank 15. However, assuming this is in the past, I'm betting the missions will fall under new categories.

That said I would dearly love it if SE revamped the conquest system. Regional influence simply isn't felt enough, and this would be a good time to change that. I wonder if when you're in the "past", all 3 nations will be tallied separately as usaul, or if it will be the Allied Forces of Altana vs the Beastmen...

One thing they could do is give bonuses such as increased EXP to players from the nation that controls the region. This could potentially help to lighten the end game camps in ToAU and actually give conquest real meaning again other than cheaper teleports and regional vendors.

I just hope that no new jobs are introduced, ever.

Either that, or (eventually) release 18 more jobs; I'd honestly prefer no more jobs past the 18 we already have (albeit the latest three being a little unorthodox). Eighteen is enough!

Oh, really?

Re: The OFFICIAL "Wings of the Goddess" @ E3 2007 Thread!

Much of what is show so far leads me to believe the story takes place well before the the great WAR. It shows Davoi around the time it was overtaken by the orcs. Garalidge Citadel when it was a fortress of the Elvaan. I seem to remember the fall of Davoi being a catalyst for the unification of the Elvaan tribes, which eventually became the Kingdom of San'doria.

I'm left with the impression that the time period we're seeing is about 100 years before the events of FFXI. The nation of Windurst is already formed and starting to master magic, the Elvaan are banding together to form San'doria. Humes I suppose still have their own tribes, the pirate factions of the Bastore sea while the Galka are still mainly out in Kuztoz and the mithra are in their homeland.

It would also be interesting to see the beginnings of Jeuno, Maat in his younger years would be a cool central character, I think. Its clear he was more than just some fisherman in his younger days, he's too well-traveled for that.
