I logged in at 21:15 GMT and playonline required updating, I was ble to check my billing ok so looks like this issue has been solved.

I've been trying to update my Final Fantasy XI install (just bought it last week!) for two and a half days, and every single time it's updating (for hours...) it's times out and I have to start ALL over again! What good is 30 days free trial when I can't even play the game? This is really irritating...

The update time out is not tied to this issue. It's related to server lag and it was absolutely terrible when ToAU came out. When you download very large updates, you always run the risk of a disconnect. Please note that you are not actually starting all over. Each time the cycle runs, any file downloaded will be stored properly and will not download again--it might take you several attempts with very annoying 10-minute "file checks", but you'll eventually get through it despite the disconnects. I would use these to determine whether it's your problem or theirs:

Dial-up or Broadband? [Broadband ftw, Dial-up connectivity is often unreliable or unstable]

Are you using a Wireless (WiFi) connection? [These are also notorious for disconnects]

Does your normal Internet "lag" (e.g. Pages seeming to load very slowly [usually white w/ no visible text or graphics] followed by "popping up" at a normal/quick rate)?

Does the Disconnect symbol appear frequently in the task bar? This is an icon of a terminal with a line drawn to a red X instead of an icon of two terminals--you have to turn on the connection icon for your Internet connection to see this and it only applies to PC.

Have you experienced lag with other MP games?

I don't have trouble using any other internet-based software, and my Xbox 360 seems to work fine on Xbox Live!
I use an ADSL connection which works ok with any other game, and before today I'd been using a D-Link router with which I experienced no problems at all. I thought perhaps FFXI didn't like my router, so I've disconnected it and put the ADSL connection directly into my PC...but still no luck!
I simply keep getting the POL-0011 error, meaning that their network is busy or there is no response from the server.
I'm an American living abroad in Asia, and this is the first time I've ever experienced any problems with an online game. I emailed Square a few days ago, but still no response...

I bought this game to day, got it all registered and installed. now comes the updating of thie version. it gets to 58% and comes up with error POL-0250. i am running through a router and a hub and have never had problems with the xbox live service. i even tried direct connect to the modem and it still doesnt work. any reason why it wont finish updating.
