The Fish Ranking System

A new competition for fishermen (and fisherwomen) is set to arrive on Vana'diel with the next version update!

We have received several requests for a fish ranking system and have debated the issue for a considerable amount of time. After seeing the positive results of the Ballista Ranking system, we decided to make Fish Ranking a reality!

Many players have already held their own private fishing contests, but now everyone will have the opportunity to participate in a larger, official ranking event!

-After the version update, Fish Ranking will be available at the Fishermen's Guild in Selbina. After specifying the variety of fish to be used in the competition, the rules will be contested.

-Contest rules are changed periodically by the Fishermen's Guild. Winners may be chosen based on the weight or the size of their fish. The heaviest, largest fish does not always win, however. There is also a ranking to see who can catch the lightest fish, and another to see who can catch the smallest. Depending on the rules, participants may seek a large, heavy fish, or a small, light fish.

-After submission, each fish will be evaluated regardless of the method in which it was acquired. If you could not catch the fish required for the contest, you may want to try working with your linkshell members or other adventurers, or even buy the fish at the auction house. Contest winners will receive a new title and a modest award.

This looks like a fun contest plus a way to secure bragging rights. I can only imagine how excited Jei must be.

I like it but it kinda sucks that you can buy a fish off the AH and win. :p Though I honestly can't see people doing that anyway. oo

That does kind of ruin the whole concept surely.

Yeah, being able to buy it from the AH or Bazzar makes the whole thing kind of pointless. Who wants to spend hours fishing up a big one just to be beat out by someone buying it on the AH?

Doesn't fish on AH like lose its size? Anyway there is no way for the game to see which fish was fished or bought. They should of added 5/5 space to your inv, like Ballista, to store fish you fish up while doing this contest.

Agree to that. And, I find this contest a really good idea. And also agree to they should only allow to fish it up.. but ow well, fun.

I think the idea behind allowing players to buy the fish off the AH is to allow non-fishing players to also participate. I mean, c'mon, if they don't have shit for skill in Fishing, this has absolutely no value to a player, and SE always seems to gear things like this towards being accessable by everybody.
