Re: FINAL FANTASY XI Update (Aug. 1)

Thats likely cause the update was targeted towards a specific group of HNM rather than every single NM world-wide. Could be wrong, but sounds like it was targeted for the big dogs.

Re: FINAL FANTASY XI Update (Aug. 1)

maybe, the ability/magic works for when it first pops, JP time. meaning to say, if we have a 1.4sec delay, maybe it works as we can claim it provoke style, but jp cant, because of the ability/magic thing...blah cant get my words out right >.>;

JP see it 1 sec before us, but they have to ranged attack, because it just poped. =
NA see it 1 sec after pop, so maybe we can claim with provoke/flash/whatever and makes it around the same time for claim?

Just a theory.

Re: FINAL FANTASY XI Update (Aug. 1)

I've read in the other thread that JP Players are complaining too about the new NM claim system.. so I believe it's plenty fair now alright...

More like, for JP's it pops 0.2 seconds before us. I see your point though, we'll have to see how this affects those big NMs.

Re: FINAL FANTASY XI Update (Aug. 1)

=Theoretically= as was posted above this:
The pop and also the delay in pulling with ja's/ma's should all be server side. Assuming there is a delay in the signal as it crosses the pacific, by the time players here saw the pop, the delay would be over/near over. So, by the time the macro for voke etc. was hit and it queried the host, the delay would be over and the host would allow the job ability to work. I think I posted this on GrandMom's thread about opinions and such last night, but not sure of the link.

Personally, I wonder if the delay is actually in sending info back to the servers. So that those in japan and china could actually claim the mob as it was initializing materialization (mobs tend to take shape when popping, rather than actually just being fully there in one frame). I think it might be possible that ttheir job ability would reach the server first and cause the appearance that the mob would pop purple (it was being claimed as it was popping). I know I said the same thing a couple times, but I'm at work and trying to work on a few things and type this at the same time.

Also, if JP's are complaining, it most likely means they are nolonger getting claims with little to no challenged and it would seem the playing field has become ever so slightly more even.

Re: FINAL FANTASY XI Update (Aug. 1)

The way I see it, this update fixes the JP latency advantage. As stated by an earlier poster, the JP advantage is *very* small. It is less than human reaction time. So that means, by the time a JP player would be reacting to a HNM on their screen, its already appeared on a NA player's screen as well. Of course, this gives a JP player a huge advantage when spamming a macro, or using a turbo controller to spam voke. In that case, the JP player doesn't need to react to the HNM appearing in order to claim it. This being one of the reasons why King Behemoth is one of the most JP-dominated HNMs across all servers. KB's spawn is nothing but a spam-fest. The only other monster in the area is a lone Thunder Elemental. Much different camp than Fafhogg or Aspidochelone, which require a player to target the HNM through a field of other monsters to get claim.

So, the latency advantage give JP player's a headstart in spamming matches. but thanks to the new update, you can't spam anymore. A JP player can spam voke all window long, but then KB will pop, the JP will provoke, and.... oops! Nothing happens because he voked to early, and now his voke is disabled for a little while. (definately longer than it'll take for KB to get claimed by someone else) Since spamming doesn't work anymore, HNM camps will now be about which player has the best reflexes, not about who lives closest to the server or who can best ignore the pain of jamming the enter key for half an hour.

Re: FINAL FANTASY XI Update (Aug. 1)

Well, been testing the NM claim thing and just found a setup that makes RNGs or /RNG faster then everyone at pulling it with this new change. Just requires a decent macro and 100% TP, not to bad considering you have to spend a little time building the TP. In that same essence though other jobs have a good possibility of beating darts also, as long as they get that WS off fast enough.

Either way though since RNGs still get to Range their WS they have a bit of an advantage.

Re: FINAL FANTASY XI Update (Aug. 1)

Subbing /rng is mightly dangerous when the heavely contested HNMs can all smack the lot of you if you don't kill it fast enough.

Bascially you want as many people to increase your reflex contest, but at the same time, those people must be able to put up a fight.

If you have 14 people, 6 of which tries /rng, and you run a chance of taking the 400+ bam.

What I see is provoke, follow by darting, now. Before it was simply funny when you have a whole bunch of spam, and a blm aero2 claim it.

Non spamers are better now, wether it be flash, dia, or darts. It's all about, being a little late, but still earily...which is actually not an oxymoron anymore.

Ok dude, please stop spaming the forums. This one word post "cool" has no input what so ever on an almost 2 month old thread.
