character levels question?
Does a character gets level or is the Job?

If job is the one that level and you can choose sub jobs

does the sub jobs has its own level??

example : i get a warrior lvl 25 and i switch to WMG and i choose warrior as a sub is my sub be lvl 25?

if i switch main jobs from a main 25 to a lvl 1 basically starting a new job is my character stats gonna restart??

Re: character levels question?
Look at the many beginners guides on the forum before you post elementary questions such as this. It'll probably answer the questions you have.

Re: character levels question?
Each job is leveled independently of another. But every character can have all 20 jobs.

For instance, if I start as Warrior, and level to 18, then unlock my subjob, I can switch to THF, for example, and be THF1/WAR1. As I level up, only my THF job will get exp (subjobs do not gain exp), but because I already leveled WAR to 18, I can level THF to 37 without having to worry about leveling my sub job. (I mean, in theory. Usually you can't get away with having just one sub.)

At any point, you can go into your moghouse, or talk to a nomad moogle and switch your main and subjobs around. If you were to level to 18 WAR as in the example above, and then make THF your sub job, you would be WAR 18/THF 1. And even if you went out and got exp, your THF sub would stay at level 1, because only the job you have slotted as "main" gets exp.

Switching between jobs, however, does not cause you to lose exp or levels. You just won't have access to all of the levels on a subjob until you level your main job more.

While I agree that the question is pretty basic to FFXI, you could have answered it in the time it took you to post that, and post a link to a few of the guides you mentioned. Instead, you chose to simply say "Hey, find the answer for yourself, newbie. God, you're so stupid." Which isn't helpful at all.

Re: character levels question?
What kind of skills are you referring to?

You can't make any improvements to a job when it is slotted as your sub. A job has to be listed as your main job for you to gain any exp, or learn any spells and abilites. But once learned, they are learned forever. And if you level another job that uses the same spell (such as WHM or BLM and RDM or SCH) then you won't have to re-buy that spell. You'll already know it.

Possibly, however if they weren't going to look for the most basic of information about the game and simply hoping to have it handed to them, what would make them look it up later?

Receiving a friendly and helpful response, most likely. Yes, I agree that it's best to teach people how to help themselves, but it's not as though we have to read or respond to threads where people are asking questions that we don't feel we should have to answer.

edit: For instance...

Newbie: Hi! How do I [extremely simple question]?

Poster: Oh, that's simple. You see [answer to simple question]. Keep in mind, however, that this and many other questions have already been answered on our forum. Check out these [links to various useful threads] for more information, and try to limit your questions to ones that haven't already been answered. Welcome to the forums!

Newbie: Thanks!

The guide in question is here
Beginner's Guide - PLEASE READ!

Overall, the Frequently Asked Questions forum there has a lot of useful information in it. You may want to read through it when you have time.

SE's guide on the POL site has some useful information as well.

And he could have answered it in less than half the time that it took for him to make a completely new thread on it. There's a search function for a reason.

Is this really a point that you feel so strongly about that you are going to continue to argue about it? I acknowledged that he could have found the answer, but I also pointed out that a friendly and helpful response is far more encouraging to new posters than "Hey you, find the answer yourself."
