New guy here and also a question...
Hi, I just started ffxi this week. Its my first time playing it and i m still trying to get used to the controls and interface (i used to play Guild Wars). Anyways, I made a WHM on the Asura server (and his names Resurrexi) and I've looked thru several "noob help" pages already. I've lvled myself solo already to 10 and now the question is where to go... I started out at Windurst. Sometimes, I see ppl whispering me to party with them at the dunes??? Am I supposed to go there and if so, how? I dont see that area in my map

Anyways, hope to see some of u if u guys are in Asura

*also, I m actually not sure if i m currently capable of partying with others, as I feel my job may be a bit demanding, having to cast many cures while running out of MP fast. As a matter of fact, I dunno if my magic skills are lvled up good enough yet. Heres the breakdown:

Divine 16
Healing 17
Enhancing 13
Enfeebling 16

Welcome to the game and the forums!

To get to Valkurm Dunes, you would have to take the ship from Mhaura to Selbina. To get there, you would travel from Sarutabaruta to Tahrongi Canyon, then Buburimu Peninsula, where you'll find Mhaura. This is probably farther than you've traveled before, and a pretty dangerous trip for level 10. But that's kind of the point; you learn how to avoid various forms of aggro along the way. FFXIClopedia or FFXI Atlas can help you see the routes you'll have to take. Note that you should also buy in-game maps from the map dealer in Windurst before you leave (I don't know who/where that is; check FFXIClopedia).

Don't worry too much about your magic skills. At your level, their effect isn't tremendous, and you'll get them higher through partying anyway. Note that you won't be leveling Divine, though. You'll almost never want to cast Banish in a party; it's just not worth the MP. Generally, you can keep resting to get MP back for a little bit at the start of each battle, and if your party is fighting monsters of an appropriate level, you shouldn't have any problems with having enough MP for each fight. Just make sure you're not over-curing (if your Cure I spell cures for 30 HP, there's no reason to cast it when the tank has only lost 20).

Also note that you can cap your Healing and Enhancing Magic skills any time you want. Just stand in town spamming Cure and Protect on yourself, then zoning into and out of your mog house. It's boring and takes forever, but if you're worried about it, you can do that.

I personally don't like partying at level 10, but that is when people generally start to do so. You can go to one of the areas around the Dunes (La Theine Plateau or Konschtat Highlands) and start seeking a party while still soloing on Easy Prey so that you're not just standing around waiting for an invite.

ffxi-atlas.com

Everyone had to start partying at some time before they know what they were doing. BTW, the F keys (F1-F6) will let you quickly target party members.

Valkurm Dunes is where they are asking you to go.

You can party with them whenever you feel ready. Everyone is a nub at first; gonna take a little practice to get the mechanics of WHM down.

A tip: get the scroll of Cure II before you leave for the dunes. It's quite a journey from Windurst compared to Bastok or San d'Oria.

(East Sarutabaruta -> Tahrongi Canyon -> Buburimu Penisula -> Mhaura -> Mhaura/Selbina ferry -> Selbina -> Valkurm Dunes)

I bolded Mhaura/Selbina because there are 2 ferries that leave from Mhaura. Though you can actually only ride one, just clearing up any confusion.

You magic skills won't cap out real easy, don't worry abut them at this point. You are quite a hike away from the Valkurm Dunes, but you can get there. Check out the Vana'diel Atlas for maps and directions. The Dunes are where you need to head next to further your WHM career.

To make your job a ton easier, use the macro system - you can research it on the FFXI Wiki here.

Those two links provide you with some pretty broad information, so please reply back with further questions if you have them. I am going with the "Teach a man to fish" idea here. Good luck.
