Another Noob
Hi ya all. I am level 11 WAR on Hades. I had some help some from some cool Highers last night. Thanks Guys and Gals. Was able to travel half way around the world. Anyway my question is what would my best route at this point to gain Gil and Levels? For the most part I have been stabing things and running around like a noob. I am ready to really get into this game and just need help. By the way I am Bretaq.

These are some issues:

1. Jobs? How do I get them
2. Missions?
3. Rank how to obtain
4. Of Course Money

Re: Another Noob
Firstly, you might come across some issues with this post. There are about a mil+ threads round here that have this question answered.

Welcome to Hades! Send me a /tell: Evion. I'll help you with some things
1. Work on your available jobs you have now, for now. You can unlock more after you hit lv 30 with a job
2. Missions: Don't worry about them for now. You'll probably be wasting your time trying to do them at such a low level.
3. Completing Missions
4. Stab things (Make sure the gaurd at the gate always casted the signet on you before you stab things...)

Re: Another Noob
Thanks I will. It has been a long time since I have played the Final Fantasy games. Generally I use the Xbox360 and when I saw this game I had to say I will try it out. So far everyone online has been cool, unlike the people I meet when playing COD or shooter games. I guess since I am older the RPG games seem more appealing now days.

Re: Another Noob
Sometimes, sometimes not. The game is very heavily party oriented so who is having an easier time often depends on who is needed at that exact moment.

You can, and will be, changing your job a few times as you level anyway so 'easy' may end up coming and going.

Re: Another Noob
Not a requested question, but I must inform you nonetheless.

If you want to be a good WAR, you MUST use a Great Axe. And out of all the Great Axe WS, you should only use Shield Break. The reason is that Shield Break gives the mob -40 Evasion, which you'll soon learn is a massive amount.

In this game, every 2 Accuracy you gain or every 2 Evasion the monster loses means your hit rate goes up by +1%. That is, if you were hitting 59% of the time, you'll hit 60% of the time instead when your Accuracy increases by 2. That means that Shield Break gives every melee in your party +20% hit rate, and that's an improvement that can't be matched by any buff or enfeeble until very, very high levels.

To put things in perspective, the only other WS you will have until 33 will be Iron Tempest which does the same damage as Shield Break but without the Evasion Down effect, and Sturmwind, which does two hits instead of one. However, the huge increase in hit rate to the 3-4 people that'll be hitting the monster far outweigh the damage of that second hit.

Your parties won't request it. They might not thank you for it. They might not even know what it does. But believe me when I say nothing beats Shield Break from 1-50 easily.

P.S. If you weren't using a Great Axe already, be sure to increase your skill in it as much as you can on monsters you can solo before you use it in an EXP party, though.

Re: Another Noob
You shouldn't have any trouble getting Rank 2 at this point, especially if you and your son duo for those missions. Higher rank means that Signet lasts longer, which is always a good thing. A good site for information on that kind of thing is FFXIClopedia. There's a link to "Missions" right on the front page, and you can follow that through for walk-throughs. And/or search for whatever else. You'll see links to it here to answer quite a lot of questions.

There is no rush. If you're not willing to take your time, don't be surprised when no one wants to give you much of theirs.

There are six available at the start, Warrior, THF, BLM, WHM, RDM, MNK. You can change them at any time without losing your experience and skills and whatever. Before starting think about what party roles interest you.

WAR is always a good one to start with if you want to do anything related to damage and fighting. If you want to bring WAR past level 18, you'll have to level Monk as your subjob. This is a good way to begin if you wanna fight some monsters, and later on you can easily level other jobs, like Theif, and some advanced jobs.

If you wanna do magic, you can start as a white mage which will give you some good macro practice. I should warn you that if you wnat to do black mage or red mage you'll have to level white mage, so get used to liking healing

The advanced jobs each have their own quest you can do at level 30. If I were you I wouldn't put all your eggs in one basket. I know people who come into FFXI with the attitdue of "I'm gonna level war just until I can become a DRK." you won't have a fun time playing the game like this, especially if as you play you realize you don't want to do DRK, but rather something else.

Are given to you by the gate gaurd by the exit gate of your own nation. No need to worry about them right away.

By doing missions. Ranks will let your signet effect last longer, if I remember right.

Before leaving the gate, talk to the guy by the gate and have signet cast on you. The enemies will drop crystals (when your inventory gets full go to your inventory and do an automatic sort) as well as give you conquest points while you have signet on. When you have 12 of these crystals, sell them at the Auction House. Go to the AH, and go to bid > item info just to see how much the crystals are going for, and match that price.

Also, start fishing right away. Find out where the nearest npc is that sells rods and worms, you can do it right in the port at your home town. I wish I did this right at the start of the game instead of waiting to do it.
