My Mood: | crossbows and arrows??
Hey everyone. I was hoping you guys could help me. I am a level 8 warrior at the moment using a great axe. I ended up buying a light crossbow which is level 7 and some bone arrows that are level 6 I think. If not they are an even lower level. I haven't used any ranged weapons to this point but for some reason I can't equip both at the same time?? I think maybe I need different ammo or maybe I need to start with wooden arrows but don't wanna buy another stack of 99 unless that is the case. Does anyone know why I can't have both equiped? And on a side note...could someone give me the macro to equip the ranged weapon and ammo so I can start pulling mobs on the fly incase I'm the designated tank for when I party? Thanks again!

Arrows are for Bows Bolts are for Crossbows. You want bolts, not arrows. |

Mono Nchaa sells crossbow bolts in Windurst Woods. It's H-13, same building you probably picked up the arrows in. Stick with crossbows for now, too. You can upgrade ammunition to Blind Bolts at level 10 and acid bolts at level 15. The acid bolts in particular are worthy of attention, as they'll lower mob defense by 12% if the effect triggers. This goes great with Shield Break, which lowers mob evasion and is one of your best weaponskills early on as a WAR. Its a deadly combo and helps PTs out a fair bit. Also, keep your marksmenship skill capped. This will help you land the bolts even easier, and you will hit for higher numbers. (Can hit up to 100+ dmg on a crit at max Marksmanship at lvl 26 lol). Using bronze bolts will help keep your skill maxed out cheaply. The acid bolts can be pricy, but are worth the money put up for it. Kills will go alot faster. If there is a Thf in your party, they SHOULD be carrying the bolts, but make sure you always have atleast a quiver or two once you hit lvl 15. I never bothered with blind bolts, but they do help with nin tanks early on when they get interrupted easily. Another tip to help hit with the bolts... get RACC gear. As you lvl, it will get harder to hit with the bolts due to a wars skill with the Xbow. They are fairly cheap. The first set of earrings are 3k for the NQ and 4k for the HQ I think. Been a while since I last checked. ---------- Post added at 10:23 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:20 AM ---------- Quote:
For the macro its.... /ra <t> Just make sure you have amo in the slot. the /ra is ranged attack and works with any amo/ranged weapon. there are diff macros for diff ranged weapons. Also... a Side note. Switchin ammo does not drain your Tp. But switching your ranged weapon does.

As has been mentioned, skill up with bronze bolts. Status-inflicting ammo is a godsend but it's obviously going to be more expensive than bronze and you don't want to spam it if you can't even hit with them. That said this is the time to take a short break and work on your skills. The higher you go, the more work you'll have to do to bring a skill from 0 to near cap. It's not just about the acid bolts, when you're on your own Sleep Bolts and Bloody Bolts (Drain) can and will save your life. And like Takelli said, get R.Acc gear, but use it ONLY for shooting.

Wow thanks everyone that was exactly the kind of stuff I was looking for. I picked up some regular bolts and had the cash for acid bolts so I grabbed a stack while they were available at the auction house. Time to go level up marksmanship haha.

A full quiver of Acid bolts can save you the price of atleast 1 quiver, some times two. So always compare the prices before buying any quivers/stacks. A full stack of bolts is 99, a full stack of quivers is 12. 99 bolts/quiver. So, just remember to comare the prices before buying anything.

You can usually buy them in bulk for very cheap off the AH. Last I looked on Seraph (and this was a good while ago) they were 12,000 gil for 12 quivers. (1000 a stack basically) |

If you are going to pull, do not change out your ranged weapon (crossbow). You will lose any TP you might have and TP is too valuable to lose. As far as switching between different types of bolts. I would make a macro for each type of bolt you carry. The format for the macro is as follows /equip Ammo "Acid bolt" Where Acid bolt is interchangeable with the names of the other types of bolts.

Again thanks everyone for the input! I hadn't realized there was such a thing as a quiver which would allow you to carry more than 1 stack of bolts/arrows etc. at one time.
