Good stuff Jarre, but your continued spelling of "Windurst" as "Windhurst" is killing me.

Re: Starting from Scratch? Is it easy? See here

Right weekend again and able to do some exping.

First things first AH items sold.

3x Amyrylis (got from gardening) 500 gil each
1x red rock (from gardening) 1kgil
Mitts - 400gil
Sitibaki - 500gil
12 earth crystals - 600gil
12 fire crystals - 1.2kgil

Time to warp to Saratabuta and do some levelling in Tarhongi canyon. Aim is to get to lvl 20 so i can run to jeuno and do chocobo quests.

Lvl 20, quite a milestone, acheived by doing many fields of valour in tarongi canyon, the best ones to go for are Page 2 and when your lvl 18 Page 5.

I buy some gausbit grass for the chocobo wounds quest in Bastok as its 500gil rather than 800gill each. I teleport back to Saratabuta and start the long walk, I have foudn in teh past the windhurst to jeuno route to be the least dangerous due to the deep passages you go down which are empty in the mountains.

Re: Starting from Scratch? Is it easy? See here

JEUNO

The first milestone is reached to make travel easier.

As my character walks into jeuno for the first time.

The first thing to do is set your home point here (as it was a long walk) and go to upper jeuno and start the chocobo quest now this will take about 6 game days to do so you will have to be patient and explore jeuno , check the AH and if you set the normal windowed mode of the game you can browse the net etc. while waiting for a new day.

One quest worth doing is to buy a yellow rock from the AH (around 2k) and trade it to the mithra child in port jeuno by the residence to give the mog exit ability to all areas , quest is "pretty little things"

Explore and get to know the city as later on you will spend alot of time here. Check the AH for gear, what you can't find in bastok, windurst etc. you should be able to find here and for a slightly lower price on gear most of the time.

Re: Starting from Scratch? Is it easy? See here

Now you have a chocobo and can freely travel without harm between the 6 cities (Bastok, Jeuno, sandoria, Selbina, Windurst and Mhuara.

Its also worth visiting the crags in Tahrongi Canyon & La Theine Plateau to pic up your key item gate crystals allowing WHM's to teleport you there in parties.

I am goign to get Mnk now up to lvl 25 via fields of valour quests in valkrum dunes and Buburimu Peninsula to make it easier to solo the first to sub job items. obviously if I get an invite into a subjob party or a party in tehse areas I will join them.

In Jeuno I bought Beetle gear for lvl 21 (Beetle Harness, Beetle Leggings & Beetle Mask) 5k, 4k, 3k respectively. and a Purple belt for 7k (very important for monk this as has STR+3 and haste +4%, you wear this till brown belt at lvl 40)

While in windurst I also did the "Know one's onions" quest where I got the blaze spikes and sold on the Jeuno AH for 20k.

---

Back in bastok... after doing one fields of valour in valkrum (1 sand hare, 7 lizzards) and also killing a sand bat to get a sand bat fang in the tunnel. Check mog house for AH sales..

12 wind crystals - 700gil
brass legging - 500gil

This is a bit misleading: Selbina and Mhaura don't have chocobos, and even if they got any, Feba would surely just pitch a fit about it.

Unless you raise a chocobo yourself (and guaranteed it's not going to be any faster than a rental; just slower, most likely), the only other method to travel between the cities without threat at level 20 would be the "Ease of Exploration" Super Kupower, and now that adventurer appreciation is over there's the chance that that one isn't going to be around any more. And you can't even get to Jeuno directly with that one, either.

Re: Starting from Scratch? Is it easy? See here

Jarre is correct, if Field Support is taken into account.

Chocobo to any those place is possible from major cities, and it's possible to return to home nation via Repatriation from Field Manual just outside of all cities. One really can travel w/out any chance of harm between them, if not always directly.

Re: Starting from Scratch? Is it easy? See here

right been a bit busy with work lately, lots on and on site too often...

So where did we leave Dovtestchar.....

Well general elvellign and fields of valour in Buburimu Peninsula and then a level in Valkurm Dunes.

Current lvl is 25 now. and decided to try some NM's, these included Tom tit Tat (no drop )

Eyy Mon the Ironbreaker as part of the Windurst leg of Bastok Mission 2-3

Doppelganger Gog

(not bad for a lvl 25 monk, dodge, focus, boost and mighty strikes and this NM was dust, o drop though )

Time to head to San d'oria to do the 2nd leg of the Bastok 2-3 quest and then try and get a party to do the dragon MM to complete it. But first I had to remind Cardians not to agro me when resting .....

Just a small nitpick, monk doesn't have access to Mighty Strikes, I'm sure you meant Hundred Fists, just to avoid confusion among the newer players following this thread.

Love this thread since I just got my significant other into this game about a year ago, and I found out just how easy it was to start from scratch. I gave her a little leg up, but honestly, this game has become MUCH more beginner friendly than it was when most of us old hands started.
