You know what, I'm not exactly sure. ._. It would at least be a fitting event for what I'm saving it for.

I wasn't, but I think I will now. Except, I'm going to fix your quote to what I will really call it.

(That's "悪名高い怪物" in Japanese, or "Bad-name High Monster", which probably means "High-level notorious monster".)
I still maintain it means "Honorific Notorious Monster" in so much as killing them gives you a title. Would also fit it with the "Bad-name High Monster" rather than the "probably" leap in translation to "High-level".

The HNM entry in FFXIClopedia is more about how the players use the acronym, but at least now you can roll you eyes at S-E's official pronouncement--or correct people when they say 'H' in HNM means 'Hyper'. Up to you. (Kind of like how players use the term "subjob" instead of Support Job*, then misuse the term "support job" to label RDM and BRD and such instead conforming to S-E's term Support Role Job*. >_>; )
Your correction, and this entire topic as a result, was totally unneeded as he was given both the terms "Hyper" and "High" in the fourth post of that topic, both of which (especially "High" as you pointed out) are technically correct.

Also, HNM is a player-made term. S-E merely adopted it for that page.
Next.
If it's not Physical Damage, then does that not make it Magical by default? I mean, you as a Blue Mage should know that all of your spells fall within two categories, Magical and Physical, so if it's not one, why isn't it the other? Especially when there are Magical Blue Mage spells which are affected by your current HP.

Spirits Within can be, and is, neither of those things. Just because all currently existing Blue Magic spells are one or the other doesn't mean everything has to be either or.
And by the way, I'm not a Blue Mage, I'm a Paladin as of this posting.

Re: What is "HNM"?
S-E says Spirits Within is resistable by some NMs. (I wouldn't know which, but, hey... )
One Inch Punch is a physical weaponskill which ignores (some of) the target's physical defense, and Spirits Within is a non-elemental magical weaponskill which ignores "magical defense". I guess. The consistency of Spirits Within damage does make it similar to unresisted nukes.
If S-E calls Spirits Within magical, I'll buy. Same for "High Notorious Monster"; the company makes the game, and if they want to label something, I don't really mind going with S-E's made up term instead of some other made up term.

Whatever floats your boat for the latter, but, seriously, if Spirits Within really is Magical damage, then can somebody tell me why Magic Attack Bonus doesn't affect it like every single other Magical Weapon Skill (like Red Lotus Blade)?

You're referring to the cumulative resistance patch right? They're coded to cut down on the damage if they build "resistance" to it, but I'm pretty sure they can't resist it in the sense of getting a random cut in damage.
YM, MAB having an effect is not a necessary condition for something to be magical. Just look at Skillchain damage, breath damage, additional effects on weapons, etc. The way I see it for something to be magical it simply has to be resistible or be able to have its damage reduced through Shell/-Magic Damage.

Eh, MAB's the first thing to come to mind, since it works just fine for Burning/Red Lotus Blade. But testing it versus Shell/-Magic Damage is another way of doing it, if there was any doubt. Either way, I'm sure the results would be the same.
