Fastest claiming JA?

EDIT: Yea...I made a mistake when typing Shadowbind in the poll and don't know how to fix it. -.-

I have been camping Argus for a few days now and 0/1 on Leech king but i haven't even seen Argus yet. I was wondering what is the fastest way to claim a mob using a job ability or magic? I'm a ranger and i think its "Shadowbind", when using shadowbind the mobs name turns red before my character even starts the animation..

But what do you guys think?

flash/stun are pretty quick

animated flourish, steal, and provoke.

Out of the options you gave, I'd vote for Dia. In a practical setting, I have flash and provoke. Flash is my claiming ability of choice because it's fast as hell, and has a longer range than provoke does.

Don't see why at least Provoke isn't in the poll...

Pretty sure most JAs are instantaneous. There shouldn't be a difference in speed between Shadowbind, Charm, Provoke, Steal, etc. There are, of course, range differences and subs to take into the consideration.

Spells have a half-second casting time and will always be slower.

I've always found provoke to be the fastest ability to upset a critter, Dia seems to be a close 2nd

They are both instantaneous.

Angon and Steal are pretty damned fast. Charm and Provoke are typically more useful due to range though. Back when I used to camp Spook (in like '04) I used to always win with Charm vs a non-botter. That could have just been my connection though. There's no real way to test it. There are too many other variables that come in to play.

What type of system do you have? It could be too graphic intensive to load the animation on your console/pc before the effect goes off. Dont discount unknown options ^_~ Have you ever seen how fast provoke claims a critter?

That's common with a lot of abilities though. The claim always procs at the beginning of the animation.

Instant is instant. Both provoke and shadowbind have the same cast time (instant) and according to Spider-Dan's tests, have the same range.
However, if you take into account lag and the whole 'being locked out from trying to claim too early', then sometimes a very quick spell can work better than an instant JA.

I've used both Provoke and Shadowbind to claim tons of times on MNK/WAR and RNG. Neither one is faster than the other. You're mistaken.
