Crustacean Cunundrum
Any good strategies on this? The ones in FFXICLOPEDIA arent too effective.

Re: Crustacean Cunundrum
I've always gone with the nin rdm rdm setup listed on the wiki, and haven't lost once. One critical difference between our strat and the wiki one is we always saved the big crab for last. The little ones go down fast enough and with no endrain to screw you up, so when they're gone you can concentrate on the harder one.

Re: Crustacean Cunundrum
Search function?

Seriously, I know I posted a long explanation of a NIN RDM DD strategy for this to a thread on BCNM strategies generally. I'll see if I can dig up a link.

It might help in searching if you spelled Conundrum correctly, of course.

NIN RDM RDM is the most tried and true strategy, though. We go with a suitable other DD for the third slot mainly because we have a core group of 3 people, one of whom doesn't have either NIN or RDM high enough.

Re: Crustacean Cunundrum
The crabs are immune to charm. You're also capped three levels below call beast. These would put a damper on your ability to DoT on BST. BST can use daggers, however, so it wouldn't be too much of a cap. What makes RDM better in the situation is that the damage cap for melee at 1 dmg a hit can be augmented by the damage cap for spells at 1 dmg. Meaning if you DW on RDM/NIN with enthunder up, you'll do 4 dmg a round instead of 1 or 2. Pop on a pair of relatively quick daggers and you're in business.

To do that on BST, you'd want to figure out how to do fast damage over time. Probably subbing NIN and using quick daggers, like Platoon if you can use it on BST. It'd take you a bit longer to kill your Metal Crab, and you don't want to try tanking the HMC, but it'll work.

Re: Crustacean Cunundrum
Has anyone tried rdm/mnk with a h2h weapon? I'm curious if it has decent attack speed.

edit: Nevermind, just looked up rdm and saw no h2h skill.

Re: Crustacean Cunundrum
Just a quick note in reference to a point mentioned above:

The small crabs do have endrain also. Me and a buddy used my mule's seals to try Duoing this with 2xMNK/thf, piling on the evasion gear (in hindsight, we were overkill on evasion, not enough att). We ended up with one baby crab left and one dead MNK. It was a close fight between the surviving MNK and the baby crab. The MNK had half a dozen pots left, but the crab would spookily (and oh so annoyingly) get an endrain proc whenever it neared death.

Other than that, I do this BCNM with every 20 seals I pick up using the mentioned 2xRDM, NIN method. It's perfectly sound, Mummy crab first or babies first. If you're struggling with it regularly then it's either bad shadow-management from the NIN, RDMs not using para, slow, dia (and blind if your NIN's ninjutsu doesn't stick), RDMs using crappy gear/food for their Binds or a lack of sense in handling the crabs once the Binds do eventually wear.

If you can stomach the selling of the Body (and assuming the demand is even there), this is a very solid money-maker. 100% drops ftw and stuff.

Oh, Warp. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways...
