How Do I Find Out NM spawn rates?
Does anyone know how to find out the spawn rate of NM's? i.e. how often do they pop?
I'm interested in the Rabbit Charm which drops from Jaggedy Eared Jack in Ronfaure. I was going to buy it from the AH instead, but they're sold out in all 3 main cities here on Fenrir! So I guess my only option is to go try and get it from Jaggedy Jack in Ronfaure when I get the chance.

How often does it spawn? Anyone know?

Re: How Do I Find Out NM spawn rates?
Somepage lists some of them, and so does FFXIclopedia. Sometimes they don't have the spawn windows, and other times they do. Even then they're not always accurate. Some NM spawns are camped so regularly that we know what their spawn window is, others are guess work.

Try those two sites, but I ~believe~ Jack's a 2hr lottery spawn. I think I'm the only person who plays FFXI that hasn't actually killed him even once! haha

Kill every rabbit in that specific area in West Ron, he'll show up. The problem is the drop rate of the charm sucks.

2 questions if I may.
1 - What is a spawn window? What does it mean?

2 - With regards to FFXl, what on earth is a lottery?

I guess I haevn't learnt what these terms mean yet. I'm sorry.

Welll that's why I said that I would "try!"
I guess I have a feeling that I may not get it, or that I will, even with thf.
I realise that drop rates in this game are all random, so I guess I could give it a try and see what I come up with.

It's quite odd, because in all the time I've spent playing FFXl so far, I have only ever seen at least one NM in all that time, and that was Spiny Spipi in east Sabby.
That was over a few months ago.

1. A monster is "spawned" when it appears in the game.
2. A "Respawn time" is the rate at which a given mob will reappear after it is killed (this is for normal mobs like Jack's placeholders--see below).
3. When an NM is killed, it will not "spawn" for a certain period of time. The minimum and maximum observed lengths of time after an NM's death when it spawns again is the "Spawn Window".

Examples:

Jaggedy-Eared Jack's Spawn window is thought to be about 2 hours.
Morbolger's Spawn Window is about 21-24 hours.
The Valkurm Emperor's Spawn Window is 30 minutes to 8 hours.
The Eastern Shadow's Spawn Window is 16-24 hours.

If the window is narrow and short (like Jack), the mob will be easy to camp. If the window is wide and long (like the Eastern Shadow) it will be a very difficult camp--you have to sit in Fei'Yin for up to 8 hours at 16 hour intervals to successfully camp The Eastern Shadow multiple times--this results in a very high price for the very nice item he drops, Eurytos' Bow. Jaggedy-Eared Jack is easy to camp but has a very low drop rate--this results in a good price, but not a great price, for his Rabbit Charm (the rabbit charm is also of limited use, but it carries significant bragging rights).

A Lottery Spawned NM appears in place of another monster at the time of it's respawn. There will be a group of monsters in a designated area all of the same type. One or more of them are "placeholders" for the NM meaning that, say, Jaggedy-Eared Jack, could spawn instead of the "Placeholder" when the respawn timer for the placeholder is up. This does not have to happen, but there's a chance it will. Some monsters have very low lottery rates meaning that even after the Respawn Window has more than passed, it may take several Placeholder respawns for the NM to actually show up. This is why people who camp Lottery NMs always kill every mob of a particular type in the Spawn Region.

For more information on hunting NMs see:

Re: How Do I Find Out NM spawn rates?
1. A window is the time when an NM will likely pop. A two hour respawn rate says it will be about two hours b/w the NM rabbit's spawns if you're killing all the placeholders.
2. A lottery spawn means that there is one or more "placeholder" spawns of the same type mob in an area. Everytime you kill one and it repops, there is a chance that the NM will pop in its place. (Hence the term "lottery".)

Re: How Do I Find Out NM spawn rates?
Further expansion on the term lottery spawn:

Many NMs are classified as "x <time interval> lottery". This means that there are certain specific enemies that are placeholders for the NM, but they have no chance to produce the NM until the listed time interval has passed since the NM was last defeated.

Thus, Jaggedy Eared Jack would be a 2 hour lottery spawn. He won't appear for a minimum of 2 hours after he's killed - only after that time has passed will killing rabbits in West Ronfaure allow him to appear.

Aren't some of them kinda just averages too? I've heard stories about lizzy and VE popping in like 20 or 30 minutes before.
Btw, you know what the actual time for Amikiri is? Somepage says 24 hours, and wiki says 8. Seen him pop twice, but it was too far apart to know for sure.
My gut tells me wiki is more likely to be right, but didn't know if someone else knew for sure.

This form of notation:

means that the player has gotten zero drops from 35 kills, or in the second example, zero drops from 210 kills of Jack.

If I were to say I was 4/10 on Serket Ring from Serket, it means from ten kills of Serket, the Serket Ring dropped four times.

Lizzy can pop back to back ocassionally instead of the placeholder. The repop timers on the lizards is just over 5 minutes. I once killed her by the campfire, turned around a few minutes later to see her relaxing next to the column. That was crazy. It used to be that if she took 2+ hours to pop then there would almost always be a second pop less then 10 minutes later.

I honestly don't think Jack is a pure lottery spawn. Common theory for a long time was that Lizzy and VE were pure lotto pops, but both have been found to have specific placeholders. There's probably one for Jack too, its just so easy slaughtering all the rabbits that no one has really gone looking for it.

Re: How Do I Find Out NM spawn rates?
Actually I've had Jaggedy Eared Jack spawn 3 times in a row, it seems he has a minimum of 15 minutes. After that he can pop. You area guarenteed a pop with Jaggedy Eared Jack though on Full Moons, this game I swear is taking parts of the "Rabbit in the Moon" legends. Even the Rabbit based items have moon controlled factors.

Anyway with Jaggedy Eared Jack I'm 0/420. Damn thing doesn't want to drop that charm. Still don't get how my friends got a 1/2 on him. Well actually I have a suspicious theory that the charms chances of dropping is better only if you are THF as main job.

Never seen Lizzy pop back to back. I do know Lizzy's Placeholder has a very high respawn rate though. So it is possible to kill Lizzy have PH spawn right after, kill PH and have Lizzy spawn all within 5 min. It's the placeholders high respawn rate that I've used to locate were it would spawn next without cheating. Works great if there are a lot of people clearing the area, I can spot the PH spawning at twice the rate than the rest of the mobs. Took a while to notice it but ended up figuring it out when I was doing Widescan repeatedly and found it odd that a single Lizard kept spawning so fast near that large rock.

Cheezy Test Result (I am nerdier than 96% of all people. Are you nerdier? Click here to find out!)
