Fighting bats for the first time in.. a while, I noticed something that I couldn't replicate to test further. Apparently, whenever the bats used their aoe "Sonic Boom" ability to induce attack down, all I had to do to remove it was boost.
Is this accurate?
Does boost really remove one of the most annoying melee stat effects so easily like that?
I am completely ok with saying that the timing may have just been coincidence, but it seems interesting to think that two competing bonuses will overwrite each other. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 02-19-2008, 06:18 AM | #2 (permalink) | | Member Join Date: May 2006 Posts: 951 Style: Light - Version 6 My Mood: Thanks: 237 Thanked 69x in 61 Posts Gil: 1,987 Bank: 112,022 Total Gil: 114,009 Donate | Re: Boosting to Remove Attack Down? I know Flee can overwrite some forms of gravity, but Aggressor will not overwrite Sandspin and instead will be in effect along with it.
I think it boils down to that whole 'tiered enfeeble/buff' system where some buffs overwrite some enfeebles (haste > crawler slow) but other enfeebles overwrite some buffs (spider slow > haste).
It's certainly easy to test however. Just get att downed by a bat, then hit boost. Boost gives "Attack Boost", the exact opposing buff to "Attack Down," so it wouldn't surprise me.

Likewise, Berserk != Attack Boost. Berserk is a different effect. Warcry, on the other hand, IS Attack Boost (and Boost has been known to overwrite and prevent Warcry in the past.) | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 02-19-2008, 06:39 AM | #5 (permalink) | | Teh Mato Join Date: Jan 2008 Location: Oregon! I post on the forums at work, play the game at home. Never any intermixing of the two. I just recalled this after a brief stint in Qufim the other night, and it occured to me that this may be happening. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 02-19-2008, 07:11 AM | #6 (permalink) | | Member Join Date: May 2006 Posts: 951 Style: Light - Version 6 My Mood: Thanks: 237 Thanked 69x in 61 Posts Gil: 1,987 Bank: 112,022 Total Gil: 114,009 Donate | Re: Boosting to Remove Attack Down? When I level my MNK during level 46~49 exp (at least 2 years ago, before ToAU exists) in G.C basement (triple-bats and beetles camp), I didn't see any Boost overwrite Bats Sonic Boom. I have Boost macro-ed and I use it very often stack with WS). And also, in my chat filter, I don't set it up to filter anything happen to the party, and I have a habit of scroll up the log window from time to time during parties. A few hours chaining bats (in different parties) and hit Boost at least once every battles, I did not see any indication of Boost overwrites Sonic Broom from the chat log or the Icons at the top of screen.
