Very Low Level MNK Damage

Alright first off I'll give you my equipment

Level 16/8 MNK/WAR Mithra

Republic Knuckles (DMG:6, Acc+2 Att+2)
Monk's Headgear
Justice Badge
Bone Earring x2 (Att+1)
Power Gi (Str+1)
Battle Gloves (Acc+3)
Courage Ring x2 (Str+2)
Rabbit Mantle
White Belt (Str+1)
Sitabaki
Kyahan

I'm currently capped at 51 H2H Skill and 77 Attack. I beat the crap out of tough/VT mobs, even snippers (15-20 a hit, 50+ combos), but I still hit IT snippers for 0 damage about half the time (maybe a bit less). I saw an 18 MNK hitting a Pugil for 25~ each hand, who had pretty sub-par (bad) gear.

Should I expect to hit snippers for 0 damage throughout all of my leveling? I thought I had pretty good gear

You're fighting Snippers! If I were punching shells, I'd be doing low damage too. Plus they're paladin type mobs, so they have a lot more defense.

Also, if it's IT to you as a monk, you'll be doing less damage on average, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Alright thanks guys I won't worry about it then

I do have another question though, when the snipper uses either of it's defense enhancing skills if a RDM or WHM uses dia on it again, does it dispel the defense increase? Or do they have to wait for the actual dispel spell

Re: Very Low Level MNK Damage

At those levels, the only way to remove Scissor Guard is by hitting the crab with an Acid Bolt and hope it procs, and there's no way to remove Bubble Curtain except to wait it out, AFAIK.

Dispel is RDM32, Lunar Roar is SMN32, Finale is BRD33, Blank Gaze is BLU38, Light Shot is COR40, and Aura Steal is merited Job Ability for THF75.

An important thing to know about FFXI is there are many similar effects that do the same thing, but count at different effects, for example:

When Blind(Spell) lands on an opponent, the opponent suffers from reduced accuracy due to the Blind(Status) Effect. Ninjas also get the Kurayami: Ichi spell which, when it lands on an opponent, will induce the Blind(Status) Effect.

Although they are different spells, both of these induce the same status effect of Blind. Because of this, they can not stack, and only one(the more powerful effect) will stay on the monster if both are cast.

However, there is another spell in the game known as Flash. When cast on an opponent, Flash(Spell) will induce Flash(Status) on the target. Flash also lowers an opponent's accuracy just like Blind(although the potency and duration are slightly different), however, because it is a different status effect, both Flash and Blind can be active on an opponent at the same time for a double accuracy down.

The lowered def. effect from Dia is similar to Flash. While it does indeed lower an opponent's def., it does not count as "Defence Down", and therefore, can co-exist with Defence Up effect that crabs put on themselves. The Defence Down effect from an Acid Bolt however, does induce a "Defence Down" effect on an opponent, and because Defence Down/Up are mutually exclucive, will cancel out the crab's Defence Up.

Re: Very Low Level MNK Damage

Hah yeah I'm definitely doing a lot better now, got my purple belt equipped. At level 19 now. Hard to find IT Pugils.

Partying with BRDs is just insane, I love the acc and attack up.. I was hitting IT pugils for like 15~ per hand, and comboing for 80+ damage. I feel a lot better about my damage now
