| Re: crit hit Nothing's really changed about how Monks work. Just be prepared to sub NIN.
It appears there's a point wherein high DEX yields good returns for critical hits. This number is based off opponents' AGI, so there's no magic number... but for Exp mobs, I'm thinking something around 120 DEX for good results... but I could be wrong. That'll be a hard number to achieve without giving up significant stat boosts.
But this isn't a road worth traveling 'til you have Destroyers and Byakko's Haidate. At that point, I hope you have your HtH merits (really helps to offset stats given up for Haste gear) and at least working on crit merits. With just those items and those merits, I think you can expect to parse over 15% crit rate rather consistency. Probably closer to 20, as MNK has a decent DEX growth as well as reasonable access to DEX-enhancing gear.
Here's an interesting tidbit about critical hits: if I'm to understand correctly, they're worth more the lower your attack. Think of it like this... pretend you have $7 and your little brother has $4. Then your tender-loving papa says "you each get $10 total." So he gives you $3 and your brother gets 6. He made out like a bandit. It's sorta the same deal... though not that simple, since I'm not sure that even with a critical hit, you're very likely to hit that "ceiling" for your damage... But you're still going to see a much larger change in damage so... yeah.
For a crit build (I think I may regret saying this, later), Sushi may actually be a good idea. Sole gives something like +5 STR and +6 DEX? Hey, can't go wrong with that. Regardless, to make this an efficient build will require a lot more research for you than just posing a quick question on a forum... you're going to need to see what you can do to get a reasonable amount of all the important stats as well as a good haste build as well as extra DEX crammed all over the place. And it makes it worse that you need a lot of it to start feeling it....
Btw, Haste is pretty much the best thing you can do for damage, regardless of the rest of your layout. Originally Posted by Taskmage | Women = Time x Money
