I recently rejoined the game after a 4 year hiatus, and have been steadily leveling my brand new MNK. Now, my Galka is pretty nifty, but I'm the kinda guy who obsesses about having amazing gear. That being said, I'm less concerned with having the amazing gear if it doesn't actually give that great of bonuses. To that end, I'm trying to find info on the Emperor Hairpin. I understand that as a general rule, mnks benefit from just about all of the stats on that item (except the -15 hp of course) and so my question has more to do with this: Is it really at all useful?
Opinions Please!
Also; I'm an avid farmer who employs his children as a work force to find the gear/money he wants. Assume money is no object. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 02-06-2008, 01:58 PM | #2 (permalink) | | Veteran Member Brain of Knowledge Join Date: Nov 2003 Posts: 1,745 Style: Dark - Version 5 Thanks: 53 Thanked 295x in 150 Posts Gil: 39,805 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 39,805 Donate | Re: Emp. Hairpin? Yes? No? I don't see how it benefits you aside from solo (where you would probably benefit more from a DEF helm/headband anyway). 3 dex is 1.5 acc and the other stats are completely dead unless you pull hate.
Honestly, I'd rather wear the +1 STR headband than +3 DEX.
But I don't play monk much, so maybe someone who has it leveled more will chime in. It looks like they don't actually have very many good head options other than Voyager Sallet (which obviously pwns emp pin up one side and down the other, but is 10+ levels higher among other difficulties) until the highest levels. Hairpin? Yes? No? Yeah, I wouldn't waste my time or gil on an Emp Pin solely for MNK, the +STR would serve you better. Emp Pin is still a great piece of gear though, so if you have the opportunity to get one, do. Hairpin? Yes? No? I'm honestly not sure if the Emp Pin is the right choice for a galka. As you already know, galka don't have the most impressive evasion and you're still going to get hit pretty often even with the +10 bonus. This is one of those situations where I would focus on pushing my higher stats even further rather than saying "they're good enough" and boost another ability. (If you were to boost something else though I would go with accuracy over evasion.) | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 02-06-2008, 03:16 PM | #5 (permalink) | | Teh Mato Join Date: Jan 2008 Location: Oregon! Well, that's all well and good, but honestly, I'm not aware of any one item that adds to acc or str that would be equivalently effective.
That being said, I've decided my galka is going to definitely be rocking the Fancy Sunglasses.
Heck. Freakin'. Yeah.
During the night, I'll stick to Merc. Capt. Headgear, just because there really isn't *anything* else. I just wish that the Dex had more of an effect, or that emp hairpin added to acc. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 02-06-2008, 03:16 PM | #6 (permalink) | | Vault Dweller Join Date: Dec 2006 Location: FL Posts: 492 Style: Dark - Version 6 My Mood: Thanks: 83 Thanked 81x in 49 Posts Gil: 3,316 Bank: 34,905 Total Gil: 38,221 Donate | Re: Emp. Well, to be fair, evasion will actually (unintentionally) be one of the more highly modified stats for the gear-set that I'm considering. I've got a goal in mind, and it's very - VERY - presumptuous and aggressive, but I think you'll agree it's also pretty well settled for top-of-the-line.

Galkas are bigger and heavier, therefore are easier to hit and have a harder time evading! o_o
...what? <_<;

Yeah what Wise said on the second reply is pretty much it. The point was that, as a galka, you're already big and tough and IMO you would be better off just making yourself tougher to soak up the damage instead of trying get an evasion build to avoid a hit or two. There's no need to enhance evasion, so why bother? | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 02-07-2008, 08:36 AM | #10 (permalink) | | Teh Mato Join Date: Jan 2008 Location: Oregon! The bad kind, which involves screaming and face-melting.
I heartily agree - the stats on Republic Subligar are substantially better than Martial Slacks. This is one of those instances where I'm willing to make an exception for the good of mankind, however.
This is one of those moments when I just bite the bullet and chow down on food, and pray it makes up the difference.
