MNK Question
Ok I want to be a NIN when I get to level 30+ should I stay MNK or should I go WAR? Because I know alot of nins have /WAR as a sub. I guess I could just got WAR/MNK when I get to level 30 then get NIN and go /WAR. But I really wanted to go /MNK is that a bad idea? I am sorry I am just so confused about this to be honest. (I am leveling both WAR and MNK right.) And, MNK being my main. Please tell me your thoughts before I get higher level, because I dont want to screw somthing up lol....

Also I know this should probly go in NIN...and I am sorry :|

Re: MNK Question
You're probably going to want to level WAR as well. NIN is almost always a tanking job, and as a tank (pre level 70ish) you will sub WAR almost always. WAR is unfortunately the only job that can use Provoke, and that's going to be incredibly important for an aspiring ninja.

Long story short: Yeah, level warrior as well.

PLD75 DRK60 lots of other levels.

Re: MNK Question
/MNK does not offer anything for a standard NIN. NINs are used as tanks, and as such, are almost required to sub WAR.

A good plan would be to level MNK to 18 and change to WAR. Take WAR to 37 (to get it out of the way) then take NIN to 75.

The only other sub job you would use for tanking as a NIN is DRK, but thats not until 75NIN so you can use stun, etc.

Re: MNK Question
Someone asked a similar question at the Alla NIN boards recently. Basically, they said they didn't want to tank as NIN, just DD and get away with pulling hate here and there.

Even if you just want to DD, /MNK isn't really all that helpful. You get Boost at level 10, but that small attack boost once every 15 seconds doesn't help out as much for a fast hitting job as it does for slower, harder hitting jobs. At 20, you could sub RNG for the passive accuracy bonus job trait, or DRG for a passive attack bonus job trait. And at 30, WAR becomes a much more compelling DD sub, since it gives both an attack bonus and Berserk (and then it gives Double Attack at 50).

Most players find out Monk is a top tier DD job, and assume that it will make a really good DD subjob. But most of the DD power from Monk comes from stuff that only affects you when you do H2H -- stuff like Martial Arts (job trait that gives increased attack speed) and Kick Attacks. So unless your a Puppetmaster, you won't reap the full benefits of a MNK sub.

Re: MNK Question
I would just like to throw this in since you think you will end up taking WAR to 37. Please, for the love of Warriors everywhere, use a GAxe.

MNK -> 18 | WAR -> 30 | NIN -> 60 | WAR -> 37 | NIN ->75

Assuming you stick with NIN.

Yes and (sort of) no.

WAR/MNK is a good combination for main tanking, but it's not the best DD setup. (WAR/NIN (WAR12+) is good for co-tanking, but it's rare to see co-tanking done right in pickup groups. It's also a lousy main tanking setup at lower levels.)

For pure damage dealing:
WAR20+: /DRG is nice, especially with Great Axe.
WAR20+: /RNG is as good as a Peacock Charm. (Accuracy+10!)
WAR30+: /THF is great--but watch it with SA+Sturmwind--you can MPK yourself doing that.

WAR/NIN is also good for setting up SATA for THF's, and anytime when you're stuck with weak tanks.

That said, getting to WAR37 on /MNK only is perfectly fine in my book; not everything needs to be completely optimized. >_>; Just make sure you always:

Re: MNK Question
What Ita said I agree with. Also would like to add. If your PT makes you go /NIN that doesn't mean you have to dual-wield.

Re: MNK Question
I think /MNK is a great way to go for WAR from 1 to 37. Even if you join a pt just to be a DD, you never know when the tank is going to get DC'ed, or the tank has to leave and there are no other tanks seeking at the time.
