Lots of HP. Some fun JA's like Chakra and Counterstance. A well played MNK is a thing of beauty IMHO. Then again that could be said for any job. But seriously, if you like being a DD with [Kick Attacks] you'll love MNK.^^ | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 07-09-2006, 03:52 PM | #4 (permalink) | | Ares's Cuirass Keeper of Knowledge Join Date: Jan 2003 Posts: 1,990 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 8 Thanked 31x in 25 Posts Gil: 2,122 Bank: 3,166 Total Gil: 5,288 Donate | Re: monks Oh yea I forgot kick attacks. Monks can get hit pretty hard because they deal so much damage, and while they have a lot of hp, armor isn't their strong-suit. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 07-09-2006, 03:55 PM | #7 (permalink) | | Ares's Cuirass Keeper of Knowledge Join Date: Jan 2003 Posts: 1,990 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 8 Thanked 31x in 25 Posts Gil: 2,122 Bank: 3,166 Total Gil: 5,288 Donate | Re: monks Mnk, Thf, Rng and Nin. I like how you stretigically narrowed it down for the advent player. -Awesome damage dealing class.
-Only job able to naturally kick.*
-Has a lot of job abilities.
-Able to do very damaging attacks using the monk's chi.
-Attacks faster than any other job can with no weapons, and keeps getting faster as the monk levels.
-Counter-attack is awesome.
-Can wear some good looking gear.
*Note: Yeah, there's an item that lets you kick on non-monk jobs, but only while using hand to hand. Most of the jobs able to wear the item have little to no hand to hand skill, save for puppetmaster. http://ffxi.somepage.com/itemdb/7971
Cons:
-Like most melee jobs, it's rather simplistic. Select attack and use your weapon skills (think of them like mini-limit breaks).
-Very difficult to get past monster's defense at lower levels, so you don't do as much damage as you should.
-Not very versitile compared to some other jobs. (RDM, SMN, NIN, WAR, for example.)
-DEF stat? What's that?
-Forced to wear stupid looking gear half the time.
-Realllllly expensive gear if you want to try to play the job to it's fullest.
Personally, I like monk for a number of reasons. The top ones being the attack speed and TP gain rate. And unlike THF, a monk's punches do high damage. (Nothing against THF, I love that job too. But it's true.) Plus it's been a favorite of mine from other games. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 07-09-2006, 04:09 PM | #14 (permalink) | | Loaded With Sodium Oracle of Knowledge Join Date: Jul 2005 Posts: 7,964 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 448 Thanked 1,591x in 1,001 Posts Gil: 4,813 Bank: 34,530 Total Gil: 39,343 Donate | Re: monks | Originally Posted by trevorevor=1 | | um mabey drg or summouer or monk | I think you should stick with jobs that you can spell. You have to select from one of the six starting jobs anyway. Monk would be a good place to start. Later on, when you've reached level 30 you hopefully will have seen some jobs in action so you can make a more educated decision as to what you want to stick with long term.
We can make suggestions until our fingers fall off, but in the end it's all about what you want to play. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 07-09-2006, 04:11 PM | #15 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Posts: 30 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 1,304 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 1,304 Donate | Re: monks thx every 1 i think youll have 1 more monk playing soon | | ::Quote Selected:: | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | All times are GMT -8.
