I keep reading this thread because its hilarious. You seem to want a medal or something for your achievements, well here is your cookie.

Take a hint:

If there are PLD WAR NIN MNK seeking, the PLD and the NIN are going to be the first two to be invited to a PT to tank.

The WAR will be third, provided he doesn't mind tanking.

The MNK will be invited to DD.

Admittedly, I have tanked on Mandragoras in the jungles, but that was because A: I have over 187 levels of tanking experience, and B: because they can be tanked by MNK without too much of a problem.

You say you tank IT and IT+ mobs. Do you realize that even PLD has a tough time on IT+? I started to smell bullshit when I entered the thread, and now I've found the steaming pile.

If you want people to believe you, you have to have parsed results. Hell, I'm willing to buy a WP to Ifrit, and sit down to watch you tank, I'd love to see it.

kenki, you took the 2 sentences that were the least impressive and focused on them. I didn't like that party as the melee were 2x nin + mnk with a bard. If you are one of 2 ninja in a party, I find that gearing for DD and forgoing eva is the best method for exp. These ninjas did not have DD gear ready for them (yet I'm the mnk who carries around tank AND DD food ). What it amounted to was a Monk for DD with bard songs to make him even more incredible.

About the fast kills... you're looking to extreme examples.

This isn't about end-game melee parties. Throughout the game, you can always target VT mobs with a normal or semi-normal exp party layout. I found that war/nin + samx2 + normal backline (including a BLM) worked pretty well. By the time 6 shadows are gone, voke is up again, I swap into defense gear and meat tank 'til 3rd voke where mob is almost dead. This is reasonable kill speed for 40s-50s. The problem is hate control as a war/nin pre-enmity gear...

I voke with +17 enmity on my warrior and I'd have to say I find +enmity gear to be a bit overrated.

I'd like to think i've dug up a decent amount of "overcoming the odds" tanking, considering my warrior got it's first DD invite @50. I feel MNK would be the same way.

All said, I'm jaded to the point that I no longer feel War is as good a tank as the big 2. This is largely in part because as S-E continues to introduce things that make nin tanking more appealing, War has been pushed more and more into a DD position by the players and I think S-E is fine with that.

With this in mind, I can't see how a mnk/war could perform better than a war/anything at tanking.

However, a MNK DEDICATED to tanking is going to be a good tank. You know why? because he has to try sooo hard to do it and he's done all his research while the normal tank jobs just float along with mediocrity being enough (I'm looking at all the level 60 PLDs who STILL don't understand Cover).

an equally skilled PLD or NIN will likely outperform him, but where the game is now, those jobs just don't have the "prove yourself" motivation.
